Found Dr Burton to be direct and to the point. But with that said he sets goals that are sometimes hard to meet and are not always clear. He also acts like you came to him he didn’t go looking for you. “So if you want me to operate it’s my way or you can take the high way.” I hear he is the best and I don’t doubt his skills but his bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired.

When I attempted to ask questions, instead of just answering them, I feel he made condescending comments and didn’t actually answer the questions. I decided to not ask all my questions bc of how he responded. I also experienced him as dismissive of the amount of pain I was in. I did attempt to confront him with my concerns with how he treated me, and he became defensive. Having seen multiple specialist in my life and having worked at a different hospital, I know his behavior is not the norm nor is it acceptable. It’s imperative to patient health and safety that patients feel comfortable asking questions and sharing concerns. He may be excellent at performing surgeries, I don’t know; but I wouldn’t trust someone to treat me when I’m asleep if this is how they treat me when I’m awake. Also, having had surgeries, I know the importance of post opt appointments. Again, you need someone to whom you can ask questions and who you feel treats you with respect. I attempted to share my concerns with patient services who said someone from this clinic would call me. Im still waiting.. It’s another red flag when the process for reporting concerns isn’t functioning the way it should. It leaves the door open for concerns to go unchecked and patients without an advocate. I decided to get a second opinion regarding my back issues. This physician, in a respectful manner, directly answered all my questions. He also did not agree with Dr. Burton’s treatment plan. There are choices out there. I would take your health needs and your money elsewhere.

Dr. Burton is the only doctor I have been to that has fully explained everything that is going on with my scoliosis in the past 12 years. I wish he had been my doctor when we first found out about it.

I had scoliosis surgery on june 16th 2016. He did a good job. No physical therapy though he said.. Luckily my primary care doctor put me on physical therapy and it made me stronger..

He did amazing surgery on my brother with Downs Syndrome. He has learned a lot on how to treat Downs Syndrome. Very compassionate. Wish I lived closer to KC as I would have him do my pending back surgery. Dr. Burton was the only one who would look at my brother. All other Drs wrote him off. I will be forever indebted to Dr. Burton and Dr. Asher. It took them less than 5 minutes to diagnosis his problem. Like I said before, they were both very gracious and willing to work with the family and my brother Downs Syndrome. He was not an easy patient, and we were not an easy family to have to work with. We were very protective of our brother, and if things were not as we wanted them to be, we spoke up. He continued to see my brother for several years. We went back to him last year for a follow-up sort of. Dr. Burton was no different this time than the first. VERY PROFESSIONAL.
