Story

Durst Cycle and Fitness, located in Urbana, IL, has been a family owned & operated business since 1935.

We have two different locations to better serve our customers. One of our locations is conveniently adjacent to the University of Illinois campus & the other is in Western Champaign to serve residential areas.

In the interest of improving health & providing fitness for people of all ages, Durst Cycle & Fitness also offers fitness equipment. We offer treadmills, elliptical, rowers, upright cycles, recumbent cycles & dual-action cycles, weight gym systems & benches. Our stores offer a complete line of accessories from heart rate monitors to fitness balls.

Currently we offer a wide selection of bicycles, including:
-Used Bikes
-New two wheelers
-Adult trikes
-Tandems
-Unicycles
-Child joggers
-Trailers & tandem trailers
-Recumbent bikes

We have a complete skateboard department at our Champaign location. Also electric toy trains (at our Urbana location) have been sold & serviced since 1947. Antique bicycle restoration service is also available.

Service is the bedrock of Durst Cycle & Fitness in that we only sell what we can service. Ronald W. Durst, son of the founder, has managed the company since 1977.

I purchased a Giant Escape 1 Disc from Durst Cycle and Fitness about a month back and I really had a wonderful buying experience at this store.  These guys have tons of bikes on display at reasonable prices.  They let me try out 3-4 different bikes before I settled with the Giant.  No pressure from the sales guys.  They took the time to make sure the Giant was the right fit and feel for me personally.  They listened to all of my questions.  I will shop again at Durst.  I highly recommend checking this store out.  A+++!!!  Thanks guys!

Durst Cycle left a lasting impression on me.  I have a classic Schwinn that needed its right pedal replaced because I had sheared it off where the pedal met the crank arm.  I needed a tool I didn't have to get the pedal off, so I walked the bike in directly.  The people dealing with me told me that "nobody" could replace just the pedals and that I needed to replace not just the pedal, or even the pedal and the crank arm, but the main gear assembly as well!  This is obviously not true, and when I tried to discuss it with them, the staff actually mocked me - as in "repeat the customer's words in a mocking tone" mockery - and told me I had no choice but to do what they said.  These 20-something nitwits believed they had the customer over the barrel and made no attempt to hide their contempt.

I left and never came back, and found another place that took care of the sheared pedal problem free of charge in exchange for me buying pedals from them.  You know - like a reasonable business.
