About

The Ear Inn. The oldest working bar in NYC.

Story

As one of New York's oldest restaurants and bars, its incumbent on us to serve the freshest bar food in the city.

The libations don't stop until 4 am daily, but our kitchen closes at 2 am Monday through Thursday. Friday through Saturday we serve food until 3 am and on Sunday the kitchen closes at 1 am.

Since the liberation from Prohibition, the bar had no name. To sailors and longshoremen, it was like a clubhouse and known as "The Green Door." In 1977, new resident-owners christened the place the Ear Inn, so chosen to avoid the Landmark commission's lengthy review of any new sign. They just painted out the round part of the "B" in BAR, and thus, the "EAR"

One of my favorite place in NYC. One of the oldest place in this city and not full of wanna get drunk frat boys like in some other bars. Lot of local people, and a great vibe. Cheap beers and cocktails (dive style), the food is very delicious which can be surprising when you see the place for the first time. Great burger and I always love the quiche of the day. As appetizer take the shrimps.

Hidden away at the side of the city this bar is a real treasure. As far as I know it's the oldest bar in NYC and it certainly feels that way. The prices are good and the atmosphere is nice. Another great chilled out wee bar. We only had drink but the food smelt delicious to! They even do T Shirts!

Nice little bar with the old English barmen who has a hell of a personality. You really feel the atmosphere of a neighborhood bar. Beer and food are good. I highly recommend!

Stopped in for the burger that appears in many "best burger" lists. While not a top ten burger, it is certainly a good burger at a reasonable price. The neighborhood bar atmosphere and cell free rule make for a pleasant evening.
