I was able to get my passport renewed in under 30 minutes. As long as you have all your documents and photocopies prepared, the process is quite easy. Some of the other people that was renewing their passport with me took longer because they did not have their photocopies and their priority mail envelop. Also, keep in mind that if you have the older type of passport, you have different document requirements compared to those with the e-passports so make sure you bring the correct documents. Final advice, if you bring cash to pay, try to have the exact amount since they may not have change on hand.

My family visited the embassy for notarization of documents when it opened at 9am. As expected, they told us to comeback at 3pm. To be on the safe side, we came back early the following day. Guess what? The older lady wearing glasses told us again to come back at 3pm since she said that that's the only time for pick-up. Your thoughts? My unsolicited advice: If it's just for pick-up, let the clients pick-up the documents anytime. It's that simple. They have lots of idle employees walking around doing nothing anyway. Besides, what's the point of the delay? You are now in the US, at least learn some of your host country workers' professionalism. You take breaks more than you are in your posts...

I went there last July 14 to report my marriage and to renew my passport with my married name. I went there on a Friday and the process was really smooth, as long as you have all the documents ready. I guess, it only becomes a disaster and a total chaos if you don't come in prepared. All the requirements are found on their website. I finished everything i came there for in about 2.5 hours. The only change I would like to see is I wish the staff will just do the photocopying and just charge for it. What's going on in there is that, if you had missed or lack a photocopy of a document, they would ask you to do-it-yourself on the photocopier right there in the waiting room. It was a little nuts as nobody knew how to operate it. lol...The staff ended up going out of her kiosk to help out..and that just delays the process. So, they might as well just do it and just charge for it.

I went there today (9/5/17) to renew my passport and found the process pretty efficient, quick, and relatively painless. Granted I reviewed the website and read everything at least five times and photocopied the exact number of copies they listed on the website. I also read the reviews here on Google and took note of other peoples' experiences. So I was prepared and expected the worst. I got there at 1:30 pm and the room was fairly crowded but I still managed to get everything done and out by 2:45 pm. I was surprised because I was prepared to stay the entire afternoon after reading all the negative reviews here. A few things to note: The consular's office is no longer at the current Philippine Embassy (1600 Massachusetts Ave, NW). They moved to the brick building (1617 Massachusetts Ave, NW) across from the Philippine Embassy last year, in between the Australian Embassy and the Johns Hopkins University business school. If you're going to take public transportation, the Dupont Circle Metro stop is the closest stop, about a 10 minute walk. There is a Colonial Parking garage that charges $11/hour but you'd have to pay $20 first and they'll refund you if you actually make it back in an hour (Ha! Good luck with that!). The garage is between the Johns Hopkins school and this consular office (you drive into a skinny alley and make a left). Read the website thoroughly. If you've read it already, read it again a few more times and then make a list of the documents they listed that you'd need to bring. To renew a passport, you'd need to complete the application/renewal form, bring your green card and 2 copies of it, bring your latest passport (if you have one) and 2 copies of the photo page, original birth certificate and two copies of it, and $60 cash. Make all the copies before you go there. And bring cash. I can't stress this enough. If you go there with incomplete documents or without the exact $60 cash, you'd have to go out of the building and look for an ATM or a photocopy machine (maybe at the next door Johns Hopkins School of Business). If you're picking up your passport, there's only a very short pick-up time, which is between 3 pm to 4 pm every day. It doesn't matter if you get there at 9 am, they won't release your passport until 3 pm. I didn't experience any unfriendly or rude people manning the booths/windows. They could be friendlier but they were all professional and business-y (which was actually nice if you'd just want to be in and out of there). The woman at window 2 was actually helpful and patient with me as she explained the process and what the next steps were. All in all, it was a good experience for me. If I haven't stress this enough, read the Philippine Embassy website several times. Make a list of what documents to bring. Make copies and bring $60 cash before you go there. If you come prepared, you'll save a lot of time.

Well, i heard a lot of things about the Phil Embassy, like it sucks, the employees are not doing there job etcetera...me and my husband just got back from Washington DC, i have to renew my passport and i need authentication and acknowledgement for the SPA and Affidavit Consent..beforehand i had to prepare all the requirements that i needed, the copies and everything..they said the fellow filipinos there will not gonna help you, its not true just approach them nicely and politely and if you are complete with all the requirements that they needed from you they are the one who will ask or approach you if you need help, they will help you right away..all the papers i needed i got it half day..i thought were gonna spend a day in washington dc, surprisingly they are nice to me to let me come back that afternoon to get the papers that was authenticated..employees there are awesome and helpful..im kinda regretful that i didnt even know/ or ask there names, specially the one in "comelec" and my kababayan from nueva ecija, the one who took my picture..but shoutout to all the filipino who work there...YOU ROCK! AND ALL OF YOU ARE AWESOME..KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK FILIPINAS!!!
