Located in the historic Adams Point District next to Lake Merritt, the friendly Enssarro restaurant family will welcome you to the warm embrace of classic Ethiopian cuisine. Wonderful Ethiopian food with a great vibe.  Hopping at night with music and young trendy people.  I like lunch best, on Tuesdays....I order the veggie platter for about $10....it's incredible.  They have indoor/outdoor/open air seating, too.  It's a great place to eat with terrific service and a local community feel.  Enssaro is of the cultural highlights of living in Oakland!

I will update this review based on how the food is, but my most recent experience was poor. I ordered via Grubhub and planned to enjoy a walk to pick it up. When I arrived, my order had not been received due to a tablet issue. Since I didn't bring my phone to show the order, I walked home to pick it up. When I returned (approx 35 minutes later) to present the order and wait for it inside, the person read it and appeared to still be confused. Then magically the order was there among others that were ready for pickup. There was no apology or helpful explanation, just a "Things happen." remark when I inquired as to how that happened. I also didn't receive a call from the restaurant letting me know that the problem had been resolved and that the order was ready. My frustration is with the almost apathetic customer service I received and not with the technical issue itself. My only request is that there be a contingency plan - and a more empathetic customer service experience - for times when there are avoidable technical issues. Looking forward to enjoying the meal, and I will post an update! 
*Update: The food was outstanding and the portions generous, so I've returned two stars.

Best Ethiopian food so far, of the three places I've tried. Always high quality (I've been 4 or 5 times over the past 12 months), pretty good service, they kept us stocked with injera without ever having to ask, and good prices for what you get.

Food is expensive and portion size is relatively small. Taste of doro wot is very funny, tastes like berbere​ and water mixed together to frankly be honest. Our experience with waitresses were great though.

Difficult to rate. Service took long but I do not think it is about the waiter. Humus was okay but not more. The minced beef bites were great.
