Got a call to do my yearly cleaning, and it reminded me to do a review I never did. Never submitted a claim but I want you to know not to use this place. I got a free service instead of using my insurance to pay for the cleaning and go somewhere else. Let me tell you this was the most painful cleaning I have ever had in my life. I have never had so much pain from a cleaning and I have a high pain tolerance. He asked if everything was fine once but didnt even let me respond. DO NOT GO HERE, even if its free unless you want to be in pain.

Not the best place to go for your family.  Girlfriend and I called ahead of time to make an appointment with them.  She then asked if both of our insurances were taken and if they were "In-network."  They assured us that they were in fact in network for both insurance companies.  So our appointment was set for June 2016.  

So we finally reach our appointment date. My girlfriend, kids and I were separated between 2 dentists.  I thought oh okay that's kind of nice, speed things up a bit so we're not stuck there all day.  They performed a routine x-ray, check up and cleaning on me, my kids and my girlfriend.  Everything felt a little rushed.  Mind you my girlfriend at the time was a couple months pregnant, she even handed them the doctors note in which they did not review prior to giving her an x-ray.  They only stopped with her x-rays after she spoke up.  She assumed that they had checked the doctors note before doing any dental work on her.  

So fast forward about a month later, our bills finally came.  My youngest and I were charged out of network.  My two other kids were charged under in network and get this,  they charged my girlfriend for the x-ray that they botched. I paid partial of the bill that was due, because I don't want to be late on my payments. So my girlfriend took to the phone and called them Several times a week, to try and even get to somebody who know anything at their billing dept. After about another week of frustration, they told her they would call her back once they have any new information on her account situation.  They finally resolved her billing in a matter of another 2 weeks, free of charge, as it should have been.  My bill was only "fixed" last week.   It's been nearly over 3 months of trying to explain to them that who in their right mind would have half of their family In-Network and half Out of netowrk? I visited the dentist office twice, made several frustrating calls(which no one knew what to do) within those 3 months. I nearly gave up.

There was this one worker there at the Champaign location that did help me and followed up with me, other than that person, I felt that corporate didn't know what they were doing.  They gave us the run around by transferring us over and over to other workers who didn't know what they were doing.  

Overall, I cannot recommend Familia Dental.  God forbid that they mess up on your billing, you'll be looking at waiting months til it is resolved.

Edit: 11/01/2017 After we asked kindly to be removed from the calling list, last year, guess who keeps calling us to make an appointment...

I was last seen in Feb at the Champaign location,  for my yearly check-up & cleaning.  The girl who did my exrays was very nice.   The dental hygienist had an attitude from the beginning.   Then when the Dr came in,  the office staff realized I had given them my medical insurance instead of my dental.   Got that fixed,  but for some reason it pissed the doctor off.   He did the waterpic cleaning & hurt me more than once.   The hygenist just kind of assisted him.   So no checking my gums,  no scrapping the tartar off & no polishing.   He then fixed my chipped filling.   My mouth & face were still numb the next day.   When he gave me the shots,  I believe he deliberately hurt me.   The filling he fixed has been done twice now.   They drilled out part of my silver filling & refilled it with porcelain.   My other dentist wants me to have all my fillings replaced.   I say hell no!  Leave my silver alone!   I will never go back to Familia.   I only tried them because my Dr left Creative Smiles,  then I had an insurance change. 😥

I made an orthodontist appointment for my 11 year old daughter. I got a call saying the dentist wouldn't even be in on the day they scheduled me but I could come in the next day. I noticed as soon as we parked that this was probably a bad idea. There was actually dental trash in the parking lot (like the little round containers of stuff they use to clean your teeth). We went in and signed in for her 10:30am appointment and sat to fill out a large packet of information. Who needs scenery when there'd trash, dust and, large spiders to look at while you wait? The waiting room was seriously filthy. At this point my daughter was asking to leave but I figured the dental suites must be better. 45 minutes after our appointment she was called back and I realizes just how wrong I was about just the reception being dirty. The floors are filthy, there are gouges in the walls, even outlet covers missing! We actually walked out of her appointment. There is absolutely no privacy in the examination area either just a small partition where their computer is so everyone can see everything when walking through. Try again familia because this place is a wreck!

Dr. Den Han-Tae Choi, is SUPER compassionate, friendly, and most importantly for me, GENTLE. So overall he has given me the GREATEST CUSTOMER SERVICE a dental patient can ask for....simply awesome. Keep up the fantastic dental work, DOC!!!!! I appreciate you.
