Have mix feelings about this place. I saw a tiktok from DenverFoodScene that painted this place as a Hawaiian restaurant, but really it's more of a Hawaiian THEMED BAR that serves small portion food. The food was good but just not what we expected. Also not saying that they are claiming to be but this is NOT an authentic Hawaiian place. This was all my fault for not researching the place more. I would definitely go back with friends and have fun socializing but not to have dinner. The vibes where very nice though!
The garden is very nice and the beer and drinks menu is pretty good. The service was pretty good also, very hard not to recommend the musubi and the loco moco!
fieldTRIP and Recess they share a large patio have a TON of potential but unfortunately fall short. Drinks: They have a decent selection on par for the area. Beer was crisp, clean and cold no complaints here. Food: Had the rolls which were okay, served with three sauces that were pretty hard to differentiate besides the one that I think was BBQ sauce. Burnt Ends were quite disappointing. They weren't undercooked from a safety standpoint but think they could be smoked for another hour or two as they weren't as crispy or "burnt" as someone who's previously had burnt ends would expect, really enjoyed the macaroni slaw they came with. Atmosphere Patio: Huge patio space with many different levels and seating arrangements, definitely a cool layout that makes you feel like truly being in a backyard location. They had a ton of heaters but think they could do with more shade/umbrellas. Service: Servers were decent, kitchen was slow on an off time, think I'll stick to drinks and light apps in the future. The biggest turnoff for me is that they don't allow dogs on the main patio after 3pm Friday and Saturday. I understand the motivation but wish it was a 5pm cutoff as I love to take my pup on a walk and stop at some place for a late lunch/early dinner between the rushes and this kinda prevents that at Recess/fieldTRIP. They apparently allow dogs at all times on their street level patio but it's not very visible from the main restaurant I would imagine service there is even worse and you don't get much of the other atmosphere benefits like music and other people.
Solid Pan Asian delicacy. Was tempted to get the Japanese katsu curry but instead got the Loco moco and pork. So good. Spam musubi/onigirazu was good too.
Fun atmosphere, great cocktails, and awesome Hawaiian food. The loco moco and spam musubi are a must.
Just eh. I ordered a spicy marg and it was so hot the waiter saw it on my face. They don’t have much to chose from and i have a feeling just staying over at Recess would be a better vibe.
So the location, vibe, staff, doggos, venue, all excellent. Drinks are good, I had a great time and you likely will too. The food wasn't too great though. The Spam Musubi had rice that was too dry, and had way too much rice. Also had the Huli Huli Chicken and the chicken was okay, the mac salad was a little bland, and the rice was dry again. I'd still go back, though, because it's a fun spot with nice people. Will just have to go there for drinks next time!
Fun little side bar. Food is unique and tasty... Has a Hawaiian feel to it.
I was so excited to try fieldTRIP but honestly it was the single worst meal I’ve had this year. The huli huli chicken was somehow both dried out yet in one part undercooked to the point of raw. The overall texture of the meat was just mush. Beans were cold and crusted over. Ordered it as takeout so I emailed a note to info @ recess to give ‘em a heads up and ask for a refund but didn’t hear back. The bartender was nice though so shoutout to the FOH staff.
Amazing Hawaiian/asian pacific type food. I used to drive across town to get some Kahlua pork and Hawaiian mac and now I don't have to. The house made teriyaki is soooo good too! If you have never had spam you need to go try some of Fieldtrips spam dishes right now. The decor looks really cool too and the staff is super friendly every time we go and the cocktails are great! Go check it out asap
