Firesigns humble beginnings started in the Lakehouse Mall in Tahoe City in 1978. Bob & Christi Young purchased 50% of the business in 1980 when it was relocated to it's current location on the West Shore and bought the other half in 1982. 35 years later the Firesign Café is going strong and was featured in Rachel Rays "Tasty Travels" on the Food Channel. It has been written up in many publications over the years including Ski Magazine, Travel & Leisure magazine, New York Times, Reno Gazette, Tahoe Living, Horizons in air Magazine and Sunset magazine just to name a few. It was also just voted #1 by the locals for "Best Breakfast" in 2011. The Youngs are still the current owners and commute back and forth from Montana "to make sure the employees haven't closed the place up" says Bob. One of the main indicators The Young's judge their business by are the reviews on Yelp, Trip Advisor and Urban Spoon. Bob says "If the customers are happy, then we're happy and of course we also glance at the financials from time to time".
