Great place to visit and learn about the areas history of generating electricity. The main powerhouse has an impressive wall of granite, and learning how it was all constructed was very interesting. Inside the park building there are science demonstrations to help explain electricity to kids.

For history, check out their site: parks.ca.gov/?page_id=501 My husband and I were searching for spots to take pictures with our son. We've noticed several of my friends who have done their photo-shoot here. Anyways, we decided for fun to come and check out this place. This is a great historical site, perfect place for picnic, bring your kids out and show them how electricity is generated. You'll need to pay $10 parking fee when the spaces are available. And they have a very interesting museum/visitor center.

Engaging volunteer staff explain the history of hydroelectric power generation in the early days of electricity. Very well done history display, and well preserved actual power generators.

Had a few hours to kill, and it was a good time visiting an old hydro/electronic powerhouse built in the 1850's. Very industrial machinery, and a work of great engineering for the time. Had some hiking trails in addition to the tour that went down to the river. If you have a an hour or two and want to walk around and see some history, I'd recommend this tour.
