Beautiful! Surrounded on three sides by open ocean. White sand beaches are abundant. This is the last place, as of this review, on this peninsula that is not privately owned. It's still free and it is absolutely beautiful. Get it while you can. I'm sure that developers are drooling to get their hands on this last piece of amazing beach front property. Obviously, I'm not talking about the fort. It's the public access beaches that make this place so special.

This was my first time here. I love seeing the ocean. Driving the 22 miles from Gulf Shores seemed forever. Then, I started to notice the water from both sides. It reminded me of Galveston, Texas. There were signs posted on the road. I wish I had photos but I was driving. You got watch for folks who don,t do the speed limit. The speed limit is 55 on this two lane winding road. It was a Thursday, May 10th at 10:30 am and it was already hot. It's $7.00 per adult and you can check their website for information. The tours are free. I have to go back again with my bike and leave the husband home.

Thursdays and Tuesdays they have group tours we went on Friday. This fort is among the best conditions that my family has visited there are lots of blackberries you may pick and eat and lots of beautiful flowers you can see Big Ships coming in from the very top. Very very steep steps to go up and to come down not recommended for people with knee problems or hip problems. There's a lot of history to be right about and to be seen and to experience there. We went to the beach and found a huge lava rock such an awesome experience thank you for letting us visit!

Excellent historical site. Lots to see. Young Historian working in gift shop has lots of facts about the fort and action that took place in surrounding area. Definitely worth a visit.

There isn't much to "do" at this fort, which offers a small museum and gift shop (each taking about half of a single room in a small building). Still, it's one of the more impressive forts I've visited. The large steps that allow guests to climb from the inner chambers to the topside of the structure and the absence of cautionary ropes and signs give the visitor a sense of freedom to explore and observe a more natural state of the fort. Meanwhile, the unnerving emptiness of each room, the presence of cannons and mounts, and the detailed descriptions of the massive guns, test firing procedures, and living conditions of the resident soldiers give way to a very real sense of wonder.
