It's great that Fredericksburg has VRE and Amtrak service via this station. I love rail transport! But there are some pretty serious issues going on here. First of all, there is NO PLACE TO BUY AMTRAK TICKETS. At an Amtrak station. I repeat, there is no place to buy Amtrak tickets. Seriously?!? Amtrak's website and smartphone app are notoriously unreliable. So you have to call them, and wait for 15 minutes or more to get an operator to take your credit card number and issue a ticket by email. God help you if your phone's battery is dead, because there's nowhere to buy a paper ticket, and you can't buy a ticket on the train either! Secondly, VRE only runs on weekdays. But if you walk in and buy a ticket at one of the VRE kiosks on a weekend, it never tells you that your ticket is USELESS. This is Monty Python level absurdity. Thirdly, the ground floor of the station is used as a urinal by the drunks wandering about downtown. You literally have to walk across 50 feet of freshly urine soaked concrete to get to the stairs leading to the platform. They desperately need to take a firehose to this place every morning at daybreak.

This place sucks! Unmanned station, free money to amtrak for untimely arrivals and the train comes whenever.... Absolutely, sickening!

No staff. No bathrooms. No information on which side of the track to board. Safety concerns. Local kids running around, riding bikes and skateboards through the station. Train 3 hours late dropping off and running 2 hours late for pick up.

SMDH!!! PITIFUL. They can do better than this. I'd be better off driving !!!
