Not simply a tomb for the 18th President but also a testament to his beliefs in equality and respect for all citizens. The Junior Ranger program is on the easier side so it is very accessible for kids with little parental help. The program takes about an hour. Most answers can be found by exploring the tomb, but a few are hidden in the visitor center across the street. Since you need to get the booklet there best to start with the film and then get as many answers from small exhibits in there before going up to the tomb. Kids can turn in completed books to the Ranger stationed in the tomb for their badge.

Be warned that the memorial itself has very odd hours - it's only open for an hour every other hour or something strange like that. Also, all it requires is a quick tour as it actually only has about four rooms and there's not much on the walls to read. But if you cross the street and take the steps down to the gift shop, you can get your stamp and watch a short film. While the space is very small, the film was quite interesting and is played upon request. When we visited, mid-day on a Friday, there was no one else there.

"Grant's Tomb" as this monument is known to locals, is a remarkable national site. Today Grant is considered something of a failure as president and a very important, but not particularly genius general, but in his day he was considered to be the greatest hero of the Civil War, and a president who the majority of Americans were proud of. This monument reflects what Americans of his age thought of him. It's a grand, prestigious and patriotic mosoleum. Both the general and his wife are "buried" here, or rather, their marble caskets are on display here. I really like this beautiful monument, which is quite close to Columbia University

It's the opening day of Harlem month , starting with an all day event at General Grant National Park, if you're from Harlem Grants' Tomb! I got there for the gospel show which was GREAT! Huge crowd, thousands of people, lots of great food.
