Good food and and they have awesome German beer selection I haven’t them since Germany. Some of the best desserts around! I hate beets but the waitress had me sample theirs and it is my favorite side I have never tasted anything quite like it! Very nice and cozy. *Hint park in the lot to the east you have to walk only a 1/4 block but much more safe than backing out onto Leavenworth!

I ordered the Reuben here and it was delicious! There were many tasty-looking treats in the bakery case as well, although we did not order any. Very small and cozy place, friendly waitress. Parking lot is tiny but we lucked out and got a spot off the street.

Absolutely amazing. I was visiting a friend from out of state and she brought me here after picking me up at the airport. The mushroom soup was to *DIE* for, so get it, if it's offered, as apparently the chef doesn't make it all that often. My dinner was the Holstein Schnitzel, and I ate the whole thing. If it were polite to lick the plate, I would have! We split a slice of German chocolate cake, and it was as fantastic as the rest of the dinner. Highly, HIGHLY, recommend stopping here.

Gerda is still in residence at her namesake bakery and cafe. She bought the place, Down's Bakery, when she immigrated from Germany in 1976. There are getting to be fewer and fewer of these old world establishments in Omaha. Visit this one while you are able. The pastries, tortes, breads, daily specials, regular customers and long established employees make this a must stop destination.

If you know what German food really tastes like, you will quickly know that this food is a weak attempt to replicate the genuine cuisine.  
My wife and I ordered two schnitzels that cost more than the online menu prices, the American rolls that accompanied the meal were dry and served on Styrofoam plates, the restroom was in need of an upgrade, and the atmosphere and decor were uber kitschy.
If you want a positive restaurant experience, be sure to try another venue.
