Story

We are an acute care hospital serving Santa Clara County, California, in two locations: our main campus in San Jose and our Mission Oaks campus in Los Gatos. Through leadership in research and adopting the latest technological and clinical practices, Good Samaritan Hospital offers excellent medical care for the people of Silicon Valley and surrounding counties.

Good Samaritan Hospital is one of the first five hospitals in the United States certified by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center. Readers of Bay Area Parent magazine have chosen Good Sam as the "Bay Area's Best Place to Have a Baby" and "Family Favorite Hospital" for 10 consecutive years. Our Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation Program is the first Silicon Valley hospital with a CARF accreditation specifically for stroke. In 2008, Good Samaritan was again the only northern California hospital to receive the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Good Samaritan is an accredited Chest Pain Center.

During recovery from open heart surgery, my grandmother was asked to leave her husband's (Daniel Gonzales) bedside. She was told to leave at 1:30 am. The patient in question has a learning disability (which should not be discriminated against) and a speech barrier. She is the patients eyes, ears, and mouth. The patient has a right to understand what is happening to him and his treatment; and asking her to leave at 1:30am puts her and the patient at risk and infringes on the Patients bill of rights, and is unacceptable. Feeling very disappointed and upset.

good Samaritan is excellent with initial care but I have been there in the emergency room when they sent home a man because they thought he really just had severe abdominal pain. Well he showed up 4 hours later needing emergency surgery because of internal bleeding. Another time I was there they wanted to send me home. I am very heavy so they did not assist me in walking. Which was the reasons I went because all of a sudden I was not able to walk. I took two steps and fell. Later I found Out I had an acute injury to my back and some time earlier when I had fallen I had broken my back. Now The later was before but the lower injury had happened within the last 24 hours because even though they wanted to discharge me before they had to admit me. Sadly to say I insisted on the CT scan before leaving and they said everything was normal= now:they" are the doctors they assigned me. It also took 4 days to control my blood until they called an endocrinologist They never did suggest based on what they thought - I was faking it all, see a psychiatrist? I had injured my back - see an orthopedist? See an endocrinologist? I of course have some of these but they had me discharged without seeing any doctor that morning or on the paper say I should consider seeing the following doctors and that was because they according to them I was fine. Maybe it was a misdiagnosis when I went in but their care from the thought I was over acting caused me serious problems and injuries.Just like the man that needed emergency surgery because they thought he was overacting. I would rate the hospital one in some cases like this but much higher in other. I think Good Samaritan is the luck of the draw.

Horrible staff I came in today with a 7 inch gash on my shin... Sheet metal cut strait to the muscle. Was sat in the waiting room for an hour and a half in a wheel chair. Only to have my girl friend call valley medical which is 5 miles away and they told me to come asap due to the bleeding. Not only did valley medical center have literally 5 to 10 times as many people in the ER, staff in the parking lot not even part of the ER was trying to get me a wheel chair. I was seen and and treated by the doctor all with in an hour and was on my way. Needed stitches on the inside and the outside... Good Samaritan is horrible! I wish I could post a picture of my leg to show what they don't consider a emergency....

WOW, after reading the reviews, I'm sad because they are all negative. I am happy to say I have been at Good Sam numerous times and have had great care. Especially recently when I had a heart procedure and the staff was outstanding as was my Dr. It's a shame there aren't any positive reviews but I understand because I would never go back to O'Connor Hospital after my horrible experience there!! I have been so happy with everyone at Good Sam. Keep up the good work, I'm sure I will be back!!
