Literally the worst experience of my life.i am disappointed that I have to give one star because this hospital does not deserve even that. I have never experienced such poor treatment from people who are meant to be healthcare professionals. I was sent here by a physician due to lower right abdominal pain. He gave me a form to take and contacted the hospital staff. I arrived at emergency, waited about an hour to see the first triage nurse, which is not bad. She took my temperature and asked some questions, then sent me back to the waiting room. Another hour later, another nurse comes by to take a blood sample. After she's done, it's another 3.5 hours in the waiting room before being moved to a different waiting room. Another 2.5 hours here. Then I am transferred to a room with a bed. The room is filthy and the bedding has obviously not been changed since the last patient (covered in mud and mystery liquid). I flag a staff member and they change it. After an hour a nurse comes in and gives me a gown. I asked how long until a doctor sees me and she says at most an hour. I wait 3.5 hours and no doctor or even nurse comes by to check on me. I go to speak to the nurse at the desk and she checks her list and informs me that it will be hours until someone sees me because there are many people ahead still. At this point it is very late, I am exhausted, so I tell her I want to be discharged. She acts like I have personally offended her and gives me terrible attitude. She acts as if I had been receiving amazing service and care as opposed to being forgotten in a room. I would literally never come here again as the experience was awful. Terrible hospital, such a low standard of care.

I am not the person to write reviews, but with what I saw in 13 hours have compelled me to voice my concern, after all I am a hard working taxpayer. I went to the hospital after I was sent to the emergency from my family doctor. Went through triage 5 hours., blood work. No problem. I was then called into another room, sat for another hour, no problem. Called into another room, this time it had a bed. I was asked to provide a urine sample. There was not much urine since I had nothing to eat nor drink the night before and here I am told I should have nothing to eat nor drink until I see the doctor. No problem, I did the urine sample and sat in the room for 1.5 hours before someone came and took the urine sample. Here we are into 7.5 hours. You look at the nurse’s station, there are 5 nurses. Some on cellphones, some chatting, while I wait. I decided to talk to an older nurse. She apologize and said they are in the middle of shift change and it’s a bit confusing, of course, I am confused myself. Anyway, she assured me she will look into it. The doctor came, I was not changed into hospital gown. So, I have to get changed. I hurried but I had to wait again for the other round. I am in a room with a bed for over 3 hours and yet they complain there are not enough beds. That’s because they cannot manage time. Had ultrasound done, now I was transferred to a sitting area. Sat for an extra 5 hours before I was told I am unwell and needed further medical attention. The nurses are so rude, you would think you are disturbing their social affairs. One nurse said to me 13 hours is a record for me, well it is lady and you know who you are. Poor poor management of patient care. So so disappointed, they speak to you as though you are stupid and they are doing you a favour. Someone needs to look into this, because 13 hours, you loose a day off work, plus parking, plus a $20 fee for a doctor’s note and sloppy treatment shouldn’t be.

I don't think I know anyone that doesn't have some sort of a horror story from this hospital. Usually relating to staff. But from my own experience you are very lucky to get a nice nurse here. Just recently had surgery here in day surgery and the first two nurses I had were dreadful. The wait times here are always ridiculous and because of the volume of patients the staff think they have an a excuse to treat people like dirt. I do anything I can to avoid going to this place.

Just to share my experience with Grand River: I went in with extreme abdominal pain back in March. I spent approx. 2 - 2.5 hours in the waiting room (didn't seem too bad for me) and was put into a bed. The doctor came in, asked me a bunch of questions regarding the pain, and then asked if I was pregnant... Which was a quick "no". I sat waiting for another 2 hours, was moved to a waiting room of chairs, sent for an ultrasound and when I finally got the results of my test, they determined I wasn't pregnant. Thank you. They decided to do a pap test and they would move me back to a bed as I couldn't sit any longer. The doctor disappeared and never came back, and the room the doctor promised to give me was given to another patient. I ended up discharging myself as I was sitting in a room for hours and could not sit any longer due to the amount of pain. Now - The redeeming factor in this - I ended up going to St. Mary's Hospital where they found the issue and transferred me back to Grand River. Once I was admitted I spent the night in the ER and then was taken to the Surgical Ward. The weekday/night nurses were amazing. They were quick and answered any question I didn't understand. I was taken for tests in a timely fashion by very friendly Porters and the first 6 days I spent there were fantastic. The last 2 days I was moved to a ward instead of semi-private due to a contagious patient (which was fine), but the nurses didn't seem to care as much. They didn't seem to communicate as often as before. I wasn't sure if it was due to the weekend shift instead of the weekday/night shift and not as much communication. I totally understand that the ER is based on priority, so I am not going to say that I was the worst patient there. But when you are crying in pain and you are telling the doctor you're not pregnant and that's all they are checking for - It gets a bit frustrating.
