I want to say thank you to Dr. Anderson and all of the staff at Greater Annapolis for their caring and compassion on Monday when I had to put my sweet Katie down suddenly. She was 14 years old and my best friend. They got me right in, talked me through the process, and let me have as much time with her as I needed to say my good byes. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but their compassion and knowing that she was in good hands helped me get through it. My new puppy Sophie is also a patient with you guys, and I look forward to seeing everyone again for happier visits. Thank you again for everything. You are the best vets in town.

So our experiences here have been kind of iffy over the years. Our first pet had gotten very old and was ill so the vet recommended surgery. Our dog died on the surgery table and as we’ve become more pet savvy, the better choice at that time (and what most vets would have recommended) was to give him one last good day and then put him down with family there as he passed. We’ve always regretted that we never got that chance. With our second dog one of the vets there was great and diagnosed her with severe food allergies and saved us from having to put her down (she was so ill). She’s now a great old dog and we’re so happy the vet diagnosed her properly. The vet Duane Woodburn is our absolute favorite for his recommendation and his further help so if you go see anyone here, I highly suggest him. If he left this practice I’m pretty sure we would follow him elsewhere. However with that exception, we’ve had issues with pricing. This hospital is pretty pricy and they don’t always tell you. We’ve had vets recommend a bunch of tests and other stuff for our dog and when we ask them the price we’re astounded by the cost. We then ask if the tests are necessary and the answer is almost always ‘Not really.’ I don’t want to pay $500 for unecessary tests. We also tried getting a flea collar for her from here and in a baffling twist the collar was soooo much more expensive then it was on amazon or even listed on their website. When we asked why it was because ‘there’s a convience fee for having it sent here for you to pick it up.’ (Not sent directly to our home, sent to the vet hospital for us to pick up) The price ended up being double if not more than the price online. In the end I have to say the staff is friendly and they love animals and are sympathetic, but they’ve made some major major blunders in our past with them. We’ve tried some other vets but they were disappointing too so we keep coming back to here. For a point in their favor they’re good with emergency calls and the vets seem like they know what they’re talking about and they care deeply about the animals. The terrible blunder with our first dog was a long time ago (but hard to forget). I’m hesitant to recommend this place to anyone but it’s not the worst vet we’ve been to (we have tried others). The one vet I reccomended is really great but we can’t get him all the time.

The worst part of moving away from Annapolis is having to find a new vet. GAVH has been consistently wonderful during the ten plus years I've been taking my dogs to them. When my lab needed surgery, they talked me through every step and called to check in afterwards. When it was time for her to be put to sleep, the only positive of that tough time was that I knew it would be done in a place where she felt comfortable and with compassionate staff. My other dog can be a little nervous and they always take time to give her some love and make her feel comfortable at the beginning of the appointment. My whole family loves this place.

We have been coming here with our cats for the past three years and are really sorry to have to leave this vet now that we are moving. We have seen several different doctors here and all of them have been wonderful about answering our questions and taking good care of our kitties. They are also very considerate. We saw Dr. Daher when we took one of our cats in for weight loss and bloating (which we discovered to be aggressive liver cancer after some tests), and happened to see her again in the same exam room when we brought our new kitty in for a check-up about a month and a half later. Not only did she express her condolences for the loss of our kitty, she also remembered that it had been the same room where we had initially received the bad news, and asked if we would prefer not to be seen in that room again. Dr. Keegan also helped us finally find a medication that keeps our oldest cat's allergies under control and keeps him from scratching himself to the point where he's bloody. We have had nothing but positive experiences with everyone at GAVH and could not more highly recommend them. We only hope that we can find a vet that's half as good near our new home!
