There is no question in my mind that Hawthorne Gallery is in the top 4 or 5 contemporary art galleries in California! My wife and I first visited the gallery in the early 1990s when we had lunch next door at Ventana Restaurant and have returned several times a year. We have made a number of purchases from the gallery of artwork by Gregg (painting, steel sculpture, fussed glass, steel and glass table & chairs), his sister Julie (ceramic), his daughter Shelby (glass), his son Taylor (steel and glass) and one of the greats, Michael Gustavson (ceramic). And there are other great artists represented at the gallery that helps make any visit wonderful! Try it! If you love art you'll be very happy you did!

Gorgeous, beautiful, modern gallery. There is a large variety of pieces here, in terms of size, form, and material, from local artists (California and Oregon). Definitely a place to keep in mind while traveling the beautiful 1 along the coast.

The gallery hosts the artwork of local Californian artists, some of them live as close as in Big Sur. I was enchanted by the wood sculptures of artist Terry Kuntz.

Incredible beauty in the art and architecture of the Hawthorne Gallery in Big Sur. A wonderful experience.
