If you like cheese, this is a terrific restaurant; their appetizers are basically a long list of different cheeses with crackers and condiments. We don't know much about cheese, but the waiter did a great job explaining our options, and we were very pleased with the result. The entrees are just as unique as the appetizers. Overall, a fascinating menu -- but the food is very good, the service is excellent, and the price is not unreasonable. I would definitely return to this restaurant.

Great atmosphere with a welcoming staff and even better food. The use of local ingredients creates a feeling of inspiration and pride to be living in Vermont. Some highly unique ingredient combinations keep you guessing as to "what are those flavors" from the starters all the way through to thier decadent desserts. I personally find it impossible to not stop by whenever the menu changes.

Still the hipster location for good food and beverage in Waterbury. Funky table arrangements in this rehab with a central pit table for lucky diners and outdoor seating in season. Open kitchen like downtown. Very friendly service, accommodating and cheerful. Parking can be found, can be a struggle on a rainy night. Heady Topper on tap.

Wonderful time at the Waterbury Hen of the Wood. So delicious. Food is on par or better than the Burlington location. I would recommend selecting several small plates or cheeses to share and an entree for each person. The pacing between each course is perfect and will leave you room for their delicious desserts. The ambiance in Waterbury is definitely more cozy than Burlington. Either location is a must visit everytime I am in VT visiting my in-laws. A dinner here or at the Burlington location will never disappoint!!!

Overall I was very happy with my experience here. The food and drinks were similar to many upscale Vermont farm-to-table restaurants. Everything was very tasty! The night I went was very busy and the smaller size of the dining area made it hard to have a conversation with my date. I was also a little disappointed with the limited variety of ingredients in the dishes that night, but it was also towards the end of winter when local ingredients are limited.. I'd like to give hen of the wood another shot in the summer or fall to see if my disappointment was just bad timing.
