Groups may schedule guided tours of the exhibits. The History Museum does require at least two weeks advance notice on group tours and you can schedule several months in advance. Call the Museum to arrange a group tour.
Education and Outreach:
The History Museum on the Square is a great place to bring your group for an imaginative, educational experience! We offer a trip into the past of Springfield and Greene County. Where else could you see mastodon bones, try on a Civil War uniform, or use a washboard just as the pioneers did?
Research:
Our research collection contains over 50,000 books and documents, including books by area authors, historical reference books, local family papers, deeds and maps. Our photograph holdings are particularly strong, with more than 30,000 historical photographs preserving images of Springfield from its beginnings. The museum has acquired over 100,000 significant artifacts.The research holdings are not open on a daily basis at this time. Please contact the Curator if you would like to make an appointment to do specific research in the archives.
