The wait time is way too long, and the "NO use of cell phones" policy is ridiculous and punitive enforced by rude security officers. People have literally been denied seeing their worker because of cell phone use which is totally disrespectful to the community. They are treating people like children being punished. The office space is huge and could be used in a much more efficient way. The services could be more positive and serve the people in keeping with the purpose of DHS which is to temporarily help people and move them to self sufficiency. The system from the front door to seeing your worker needs to be overhauled. People have been scheduled for a certain time, but are left to wait hours because staff is in a meeting, or they went to lunch. It takes people hours of waiting to see a caseworker for a few minutes...why the lag time in calling the next person? I have actually seen workers in personal conversations on their phone or with each other once I got to the back, while customers continue to wait. And yes, the not answering the phone is real...can't get anybody on the phone, the mailboxes are full, etc. At the time of this posting something weird is going on with the phones...when I call I am asked to put in a phone number and a pin???????? Never heard that before! Normally, there is a recording that starts: "Welcome to the Dept of Human Services..." with instructions on how to contact departments/workers...not so right now. In fact I am going to be reaching out to the downtown office today. Hope they get it together...people need help and yes there are those who are ignorant and make the job difficult but rise to the challenge and change things!

I was recently laid off from my job. This is my first time needing link card benefits and i to say this was the worse experience I have ever had. This employees do have an attitudes and aren't willing to do more than their assigned titles. Prime example.. the elder lady that activated my link card i asked her what day does the funds go on my account. Her response was " i don't know as you case worker. I've never been a case worker." I asked her ok can I ask him? She said you have to call him and make an appointment. Mind you I just spoke to him. To make matters worse I was filed the wrong way which had me waiting from 827am-1130am. People were clearly upset for varies reasons but I've always said cooler heads prevail. This places tested that. Either these employees are not paid enough or appreciated enough to want to HELP people during their down times. They deal with a lot of people from different aspects of life but to treat people as if they are gutter is unexceptable. My case worker I THINK was Mr. Arnold. He was amazing. I wish everyone in that office was like him. He treated me with respect the moment he called my name in the LOUD waiting area. Also the no phone policy is rediculous. People are waiting there for hours and still must conduct business, like myself. If I go outside to place a call and my name is called then what??
