My family was transferred to Idaho a year and a half ago. The move was stressful. Symptoms of heart palpitations, chest pain, being tired, etc. accompanied by the comment, "something isn't right" was explain to either a doctor or nurse. I have received the following responses from the medical professionals; "you must not be taking your medication correctly", (I take one pill for thyroid, not a challenge), "Hypothyroidism and Hashimotos disease are the same" (NOT true) I asked for more blood tests to check vitamin deficiencies, "that's too expensive, you're eating aren't you?!". 3 weeks ago I walked into the clinic and explained to the nurse, I feel like I'm having a heart attack, response...... "We just need to check your thyroid, come back in 3 weeks for blood work". This is a sample of the care I've received. Until this day no one has had any urgency to check a 47 year old woman for heart attack symptoms. According to them my cholesterol is high. Why wouldn't you run tests as a precautionary measure? OR review side effects from the ONE pill I take? When I mentioned Levothyroxine had a recall on April 5th and the details were classified, the nurse said "nothing has been on the news and the medication has been used for many years", a simple gesture of research would have been appreciated, but no that would be over the top professionalism. Recently, I went to a Community Care and within 20 minutes was told I have Hashimotos, stop taking my medication, and sent to an Endocrinologist for my symptoms from the SIDE EFFECTS of my medication. Lastly, my cholesterol is NOT a concern. Although slightly unfair to criticize at this point due to the fact that treatment is ongoing, but at least now I feel like my health is an important partnership with my doctor/nurse, not a debate.
