The InterContinental Stephen F. Austin Hotel provides luxurious accommodations just four blocks from the State Capitol in the heart of downtown Austin, Texas.

Story

Funded by the wonderful people of Austin the hotel opened on May 19th, 1924 at 10 stories tall it was the tallest building in the city at the time and quickly became a local hotspot for social events. Austin's sprung up around us since then quickly making us a hidden gem in the heart of downtown. One block from 6th street, a short jaunt to the Capitol, and in the middle of everything that makes Austin such an amazing city. We're still keeping it weird in style! You don't have to rent a room to enjoy our hospitality! Stop by our Stephen F.'s Bar and enjoy a beverage or food or both on our terrace!

The rooms were fantastic. Location is great, just one street from 6th and very close to live entertainment and tons of dining options. One of the nicer places I've stayed at.

First, the good. Most of the staff was friendly and the restaurant/bar connected to the room is good. They have happy hour even on weekends. Now the "needs improvement" section...first of all, we had a dog at this "pet friendly" hotel. I understand that some of the nicer hotels require pet deposits, but this is no W Hotel. And no where on any of the confirmations I got did it say that there was one! So I drive in with my dog, check in (dog right next to me) and the lady is very pleasant but doesn't make me sign anything for him or make me pay anything. Great! Now we went out for some late night food around midnight and left the dog in the hotel and he was barking. Noise complaint...I get it. (It might be helpful to note here that you can hear everything going on in the room because the walls are so thin and the rooms are on the small side.) But the lady who calls me starts chastising me for not having paid the $100 non-refundable pet deposit!!!!!! Excuse me?!? I've paid plenty in hotel and parking alone, and now I have to pay that! So the next morning I talk to a supervisor who basically blames me for all of this (her staffs lack of concern over the guest with the dog) and says my 12 lb Bichon is a "liability". So if you don't have a pet and don't mind listening to your neighbors, then this place is fine. As for me, my dog, and my hard earned money, we'll be going across the street!!! No pet deposit required and super cool rooftop bar! Also note, their website states they do have a pet deposit but doesn't say how much or that it's non refundable.

If anyone is looking for a great deal on hotels you can check it out on HotelRaven.   com Booked a hotel on there and they had the cheapest rates around...

I've stayed in a handful of Intercontinental properties in the US (NYC times square), Canada (Montreal), and Europe (Paris) and the Steven F. Austin compares favorably with all of them. Staff is incredibly friendly, valet is helpful and offered directions to local sites, and the location is perfect. The rooms were spacious, as well. I really can't find any fault with this intercontinental property. Can't go wrong staying here!

Staff is incredibly friendly, valet is helpful and offered directions to local sites, and the location is perfect. The rooms were spacious, as well. I really can't find any fault with this intercontinental property. Can't go wrong staying here!

The hotel is absolutely beautiful and in the middle of downtown. Everything was within walking distance. The hotel staff were wonderful and made our anniversary stay special.
