Food was good. Tortilla soup and brisket enchiladas were my favorite. Some of the wait staff was quite rude. I had to order from the bar because no one came over to see us. Bar tender was very nice. Unfortunately I did watch one of the female servers SCREAM curse words at the bus boy. He was trying to get it of her way and didn't get far enough for her and she literally screamed and cursed him out. It was really not necessary and I did not enjoy my visit after that. The food does come up on an elevator which was fun to watch!

Service was extremely slow for us, even though we had been seated immediately. We almost walked out after 25 minutes of being passed over. Finally, a waiter that was not even our server noticed us and took care of us. Shortly after, our waitress came to our table and made no excuses about being slow and asked what we wanted to drink. We told her someone else is waiting on us and we had already given him our food order. Our waiter took great care of us and his other large tables (there were only 3 of us). We never got an apology from the manager either. The food was good, but not enough for me to go back. They need to keep the waiter we had because he is the only thing that made the evening okay. We rewarded him nicely for his service.

The food looks better than it tastes. I know that a lot of restaurants use farmed fish, beef or chicken which has been fed with hormones and antibiotics. I am not sure what it is but the boiled shrimp, which I love, I could not eat. It tasted nothing like shrimp.

Poor service aside, I think the improper hygiene of some of their service staff is more concerning overall. 6 of us sat at the end of the bar. Took a few minutes to even get acknowledged by the bartender. We received our first round and watched the bartender tear off pieces of bacon sitting on a plate (for the Blood Mary's), wipe his hands in his shirt, and touch his beard repeatedly. This happens for a while. Then the new bartender comes on shift. He blew and wiped his nose, never washed his hands that we could see. Just kept making drinks. It was difficult to get anyone’s attention to get extra ice, a second round, or even a appetizer. Forget about being offered any chips or other food. As a 1st-timer to Austin, I’d clearly stay clear from this place.

The food was great!! It’s not cheap but worth it. It was a little loud and the only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because I am not a fan of having automatic gratuity. It was 18% and I normally tip 20- 25% but I don’t like not having a option. We only had two in our party so it was not because we had a large party. But I will for sure go back! The Queso Compuesto is a must have! They also have a gluten free menu with lots of options!
