A Little History of Jacksons

Story

1938, Stonewall Jackson opened the doors to Jackson Trading Co. Located street side in a quite brick building near the train tracks, selling dry goods and clothing. With the two sons entering the business, expansion was in the future. Thomas Jackson and Julian Jackson broke down walls and took the Jackson Trading Co to larger heights with feed & seed, an excellent leather repair shop, harness making shop and western clothing that was unheard of in this region of America.

After some years had passed the space became scarce in the brick building that housed Jackson Trading Co. so on a voyage for room and comfort. Thomas happens to come upon a piece of land on the west side of Asheville and with cowboy intuition and southern grit we broke ground in spring of '73. Growing from a small harness shop into a western clothing premier store took a lot of combined effort of the third generation of Jacksons to step in their fathers shoes.

John Jackson (son of Julian) took the harness/leather shop to new national heights with custom hand-made leather goods that some had thought to be non-existent. Charles Jackson (son of Thomas) became a staple of the saddle/tack business and grew into a sought after store in the south east. By summer of ’93 space inside of Jackson Trading Co was getting tight and desperate. The following summer we knocked some walls down and doubled our size to the store that customers enjoy today.

With the future in-sight Jackson Trading Co made a change to Jackson’s Western Store to reflect the upcoming JacksonsWesternStore.com venture.

Jackson’s is one of the oldest family owned businesses left in Asheville NC. With a past as colorful as its future, Jackson’s has become a common name amongst horse enthusiasts around the world.

The staff is very rude, as if you're bothering them asking them questions. My first trip in for myself and being ignored and treated as if I was annoying I walked out without spending a cent. I go back to get a gift card once a year for a friend that shops there simply because they have specific things that she needs. And every year it is the same story... walk in get a irritated look for asking for a gift and then rang up while the face of annoyance stares back at me. No thank you, come again, or have a nice day. Will never give them a cent of my money for myself. I mean c'mon even McDonald's says thank you.

Like everyone in this been going to this store for years, it is what it is. Not saying it's a bad thing, but if you want warm fuzzies and rainbows you may need to go somewhere else. ;) (I get my warm fuzzies from the smell of leather and new denim when you walk thru the door, not from people faking a smile & kissing my butt cause I might spend a dollar) The basement is where the magic happens! If you need shoeing or leather supplies, which they have expanded what they carry so check out out. He also had a couple leather sewing machines for sale last time I was in. Been going here for the last 15 years.

When they say it could take 4 weeks, they mean 4 weeks. I wouldn't order anything you expect before then. I originally gave a one star but have edited it since. I did so because they check this which I appreciate. They might take a few days to get to your email, but they reply quickly on here. They said that they were responding to this post but never did. I sent them another email and they replied to that one. It has been over three weeks, but they are getting the product sent directly to me now. It has been a ride, but they are doing what they can to make up for it.

I bought a saddle over the phone from Jacksons western store. Nathan was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They were easy to deal with and very friendly. I would highly recommend this store. My new saddle arrived super fast and well packaged. Thanks!

Nice selection of Western boots and saddlery. Prices are a bit on the high side, but you will probably find what you need.
