Dr. Alex is a great doctor, she listens to my concerns and is very patient with me, she covers all bases by doing labs and referrals with a specialist if needed.
I have nothing but praise for the clinic. From the gals that answer the phone and schedule patients all day with a smile in their voice even when they don’t feel like it... to the excellent nursing staff, CNA’s, lab techs, and the billing and insurance ladies that fight for their clients every day so they can get the care and medications they need; and last but not least the amazing providers actually listen to not only what your symptoms are, but how you’re feeling...that’s hard to come by. I started seeing Dr Joel and Dr Alex when they practiced in Boone and I followed them 40 miles away to keep them as providers. Unity Point Johnston’s doctors and staff are totally worth it.
The best family clinic out there, absolutely wonderful. I'm a disabled combat veteran with many old injuries, and strange conditions, my oldest is autistic, the middle is quiet, and the youngest is ADHD and peanut allergy. There has never been any issues with treatment here, very real and down to earth advice from their life experience and knowledge, not just from text books with poor attitude like many other clinics. They really do talk to you like you are family here.
Lately I have had a few different health concerns that I wanted to address so I made a few different appointments to address each issue since it seems like the clinic is only allowed to process one concern at a time. When I went in my 9 month old son came with me. I needed to use the restroom so I handed him off to my nurse and they waited outside the bathroom. I was only in there a few minutes but when I came out a different nurse was holding him. That was fine, the nurse was sweet and I told her so. The next time I came in a couple weeks later, I brought my son again and as we were leaving the nurses were saying bye to him from their office chairs, fine. Someone said some thing that made me curious so I asked who all got to hold him last time. 3 different nurses who weren't familiar to me said they all held him. I didn't say anything and we continued to leave. One of the nurses called out, "See you next week!" I was confused and didn't have another appointment scheduled but my doctor said that she would make a couple different referrals to other clinics for me to address my issues so I thought the nurse was talking to another client. When I got to the lobby there was no other clients leaving and it made me feel like the nurse was taunting me because I had been in so many times recently. Even if that wasn't the case, they should not have been passing my son around without my knowledge, especially during covid season. What if something else had happened to him? I wouldn't have known who all held him or what exactly happened. I found it disrespectful to both me and my son. My family will be finding another clinic who has our safety as their first concern.
Fast appointments, can get in the same day or next. Friendly staff and doctors who care about your well-being. This office will always be my go to for any appointment. Dr Joel Vandermeide listens and always helps with any situation going on.
UnityPoint Clinic Family Medicine in Johnston is the best Unity Point I've ever been a patient at. They are easy to reach, their staff is friendly and are very accommodating to appointments. Our provider, Jessica Tiernan is wonderful. She is patient, polite and well-informed. It is easy to see how much she genuinely cares about her patients by her attention to detail and ability to be collaborative to find a solution. Our entire family now uses this clinicalthough there are several more closer to our home and Jessica. I highly recommend!
I had recent trip to this office for a cold. I was billed $249 dollars 85.00 after insurance. Towards the end of the visit$125, after I had received a diagnosis, I was convinced to have a flu swab$124 after convincing me that it would just take one second. Later when I called to talk about these charges I spoke with a very dismissive rep, who clearly couldn't care less, informed me that Doctors had no responsibly to know costs to there patients. I disagree. Looking out for a patients well being is about more than just helping them recover from a cold.
All the staff are extremely friendly. I came to this facility with one issue, and Joel Vander Meide, D.O. fixed 3 issues with one visit. He has changed my life for the better and for that I will always have him as my doctor while he still is one. Thank you Joel Vander Meide, D.O.,I am extremely happy with you and your staff!
Dr Joel is the only doctor I've had that listens. Doesn't try to rush to next patient.
Dr.Joel did not speak to me and had his nurse tell me to go to urgent care to fill my prescription since I am out of town even though I have been their patient for 8 years. Unacceptable.
