Thank you to the staff at Kindred Hospital for helping me to get well. I've been very fortunate with my recovery and the support that I received has been tremendous. The nurses have kept me comfortable and responded when I called. I liked joking around with them, though they may not have thought I was funny, always laughed with me. Their smiles were so pleasant to see everyday. Maa and Tatiana were so caring. Tatiana was very attentive with my kidney doctor, she wanted to have all the details of my condition and progress. The nurses aides checked on me frequently, Nerissa and Nancy put up with me and my antics. Housekeeping is top notch, Mary and Nina kept my room spotless. They also took the time to get to know me. I began Physical Therapy within the 1st week and could not walk well. I quickly realized who was boss and the team (Sandy and Anthony) had me walking with out support within weeks. I walk down the hall and outside daily. Sandy always has an eye on me wandering if I'll try to run, but I keep coming back. The food is good, even though I'm on a restricted diet. With all the monitoring and therapy my weight has dropped and my sugar is good. Everyone at Kindred made a difficult time easier and pleasurable for me. I feel like I have another family but I'm looking forward going home. My deepest thanks and appreciation. Jerry Waychoff

The entire staff from reception to Drs I was given utmost attention to all my needs. Very thorough with any need. The nursing staff caters too all your needs with urgency and stop to listen to your questions and talk you through your fears and concerns. I feel very comfortable with all departments knowing they listen and are proactive with your care plan. I am pleased with my stay and extremely pleased with PT and OT therapy. I am on the road to recovery. A big Thank You to the entire staff at Kindred Hospital Pittsburgh.

To the wonderful staff at Kindred, Today marks the end of 38 days of impeccable care that our Dad has received at Kindred Hospital. We couldn't be more appreciative of our Case Manager, the Respiratory and Physical Therapists, and the team of Doctors caring for Dad. We can't thank the 6th Floor Nursing Staff enough for their tremendous care, always answering questions and sometimes just taking the time to talk with us. We would highly recommend Kindred Hospital. Although it is unfortunate to have someone you love need an LTAC, we are so thankful for Kindred, and every single one of you! Karen (Kopach) Cirra

This “hospital” appears a little substandard in comparison to an Allegheny Health network hospital but tolerable in comparison to what there is in the Pittsburgh area. Unfortunately, it is another cesspool for transmission of elderly commutable infections. My siblings and I noticed that the staff in the ICU appeared a little lax in proper preparation (i.e, hand washing, gloves) when entering an ICU room. Upon transferring my father from Kindred to another step down facility it was soon discovered within a day he acquired a MRSA pneumonia that almost killed him as he was septic. In addition, he was found to be dehydrated and barely responsive due to the infections they spread to him. In this system of Medicare, this for profit hospital will transfer you out of there before you are well enough due to some criteria where Medicare only pays a certain number of days. All seemed fine at first at Kindred until the end of that number of days. The on staff doctor okayed my father's transfer to a deplorable rehab facility while his medical condition was actually declining (septic shock). Once at the new facility they transferred him to, his oxygen level was found to have dropped but since it was a rehab hospital they were unable to identify what was happening. Within 2 days my Father was almost unconscious and we transferred him to a hospital ER. We thought it was from the two falls he had taken at the new facility but after the ER evaluation we found out it was from incompetency of the doctors and nursing staff at this KINDRED facility. In addition, we were purposely misled by a case manager in the transfer rehab center location. He was not ready for the next step-down as the facility was for patients who were at least conscious and partially mobile. Her only "concern" was to get him out of there and not trouble herself to inform Medicare he was not ready. Any person with any morals would have known he was not physically able to fend for himself which is what you needed to do in the next facility she was pushing us to go to.

Excellent care - all of the nurses and aides were exceptional in their ability and attitude. They made me feel comfortable and well cared for. If I were to point out any shortcoming, it would be that it sometimes felt as if the unit was slightly understaffed when there was a longer then usual delay in answering a call button. The therapy department is first class. The therapists have such a positive attitude and know how to motivate their patients. The only issue I might have is with dietary. The department does not seem to consistently follow through with the information patients give them. Some of the food was inedible. Overall, Kindred is an excellent facility, and I would recommend them to anyone.
