Lake Pleasant Regional Park

Story

Lake Pleasant Regional Park is a large outdoors recreation area straddling the Maricopa and Yavapai county border northwest of Phoenix, Arizona. The park is located within the municipal boundaries of Peoria, Arizona, and serves as a major recreation hub for the northwest Phoenix metropolitan area.Lake PleasantThe cornerstone of the park is the 10,000 acre, Lake Pleasant, one of the important artificial reservoirs surrounding the Phoenix metropolitan area. Created by the Waddell Dam, which was finished in 1927, the lake originally had a surface area of 3,700 acres and served as a private irrigation project. At 76 feet high and 2,160 feet long, the original Waddell Dam was, at its completion, the largest agricultural dam project in the world. The lake was filled by the Agua Fria River, capturing a large watershed throughout Yavapai County.Construction of the Central Arizona Project Aqueduct, which began in 1973, soon diverted water from the Colorado River to the lake, converting the lake from an agricultural project into a storage reservoir for the project. Completed in 1994, the New Waddell Dam tripled the surface area of the lake, submerging the old dam beneath its waters. Shortly after the completion of the dam, the area experienced a prolonged drought, and while the lake grew considerably it would not reach full capacity until early 2005. Although still fed by the Agua Fria River, the CAP aqueduct is the primary source of water for the reservoir.

We went tent camping and stayed at the Desert Tortoise Campground with our children. What a great experience for everyone in the family. The restrooms were exceptionally clean as well as the campground itself. My only issue with this place is lack of shade and no BBQ grills. However there is a small grill over the fire pit but really not to practical. I would certainly recommend this spot to anyone looking to relax and enjoy the outdoors. We did have a Burro come up to the table while we were putting dinner away and take a package of hamburger buns right off the table. He just stood there and ate them, minus the bag after we took it from him. The animal was friendly enough and even let us let him.

Went on the Phoenix boat sunset dinner cruise. Scenery around Lake Pleasant was beautiful. Dinner was a buffet and was average for that sort of thing. Dessert was tasty and was warmer than the meal! One thing I forgot: the live entertainment, a solo guy named Dusty Titles, was surprisingly good!! A nice voice, good guitar and sense of humor. Kept working throughout the trip. Very enjoyable!!! Thanks

Lake pleasant regional park was great. The camp grounds are fairly priced and very clean. The view from my camp site was great but I would guess the view varies depending on what lot you reserve. Plenty of bathrooms and showers close by and lots of animals to see

The lake is a beautiful place to visit and relax but the cost of going there is a little ridicules. Its fine if i go a couple times a year. I'd have to pay to go in my truck then pay to bring The boat then pay again to spend the night. And those costs are for each day. I don't think so. I can see a charge for camping but not a charge for each car and boat and charge for each day.

If you have not been the Scorpion Bay, you're missing out! They have boat rentals and treat everybody respectfully. We have our boat and a slip at their harbor, and the management is excellent! Chris and his staff are always super friendly and helpful!
