there was only one worker trying to take care of tag renewals in a line out the door. Waited over an hour in the line to renew my tag and told her my tags were expired and needed a new one. She didn’t tell me what I did wrong, what I didn’t have or what I needed to do or anything, just said, “go pull another number and someone else will help you.”

Inexcusable that anyone going in for a drivers license renewal has to stand in a line when all other services there work on a number system that allows customers to take a seat till their turn comes up. I have beeh there three times in the past month for both mine and my wife's license renewal, and each time stood in line for 20 to 30 minutes. I held an elderly lady's spot so she could sit down till her turn came up - 30 minutes later. There must be 50 to 100 chairs in the facility, and at my visits, there may have been 5 customers sitting - with numbers - waiting for service. The rest all empty. Given the new - and confusing - requirements for the enhanced license, the process takes longer at the window, so longer waits can be expected. On that note, unless they have updated the web site in the past week, what is listed there as necessary for proof of identity and address does not match with what they want when you come to the window. When I got my license, they accepted Social Security Retirement, Survivors and Disability Insurance letter, which has my name, address and social security number on the header as one of the five documents of proof. My wife brought the same in her name and they refused to accept it, requiring her actual social security card. Social Security actually discourages requesting a replacement card in the event you cannot locate yours, and they state it is almost never needed. Little do they know what the DMV requires - nor does the DMV themselves. Tickled that the license is valid for 8 years. Maybe by then they will figure out what is needed and clearly transmit that to license holders.

AWFUL. At 9:20am there were over a dozen people waiting for drivers licenses with only one, very, very slow person working who then left. For several minutes no one was working. The manager was walking around and looking at things, but apparently she can't sit down and do real work. At 9:30 the workers were just starting to come in. One gentleman who had apparently been there the longest didn't know he needed to get a number. They usually have a line at this location for driver's licenses, and the number dispenser was on the opposite side of the room pointed the opposite direction. When someone else spoke up and asked one of the workers (a mostly bald Latino man) who had just arrived if that gentleman needed a number while also mentioning he had been there the longest and didn't have one, the older gentleman was told very rudely without any compassion to go get a number. The worker didn't ask who was first or having any level of caring. I gave the guy my number as I got up and walked out. I had already been told by someone that the downtown office was competently managed, so I drove to the downtown office and was done in about 20 minutes.

Avoid there. I was there waiting for an hour and half they just told me the system does not work we can help anything. I just want to know how the DMV system doesn't work. Can not believe it.
