The OIG provides civilian oversight to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Welcome to The Office of Inspector General (OIG). The OIG's role within the City of Los Angeles is to support the Board of Police Commissioners -- a five member civilian panel -- and the public by providing information and analysis regarding the conduct and performance of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
The OIG functions as the "eyes and ears" of the Board of Police Commissioners, which is responsible for overseeing the LAPD. The OIG is separate and independent from the Department.
The OIG also reviews investigations specific to all officer-involved shootings and significant uses of force that result in death or hospitalization, as well as complaint investigations of police officer misconduct. The OIG conducts its own performance-related audits, as well as other reviews.
