Close to the city, deep in the wilderness. A must-visit park for those not wanting to get too lost while still requiring some adventure. Reservations are necessary, as many folks grab these spots, and often for long stays (14 day maximums). RVs are the most common sight, and it attracts that demographic of traveler. However, everyone was very kind and generous as they saw us struggling to stay dry in our tent after several successive days of constant rain. The trails are limited to a few paths, but it still feels vast and open as you traverse them. I loved the spectrum of skilled hikes too, anything from a casual stroll to a hardcore hump up to the flatiron which demands solid preparation and being in decent shape to deal with a 5+ hr trek & some vertical scrambling. The individual sites are pretty small and hard to put a tent anywhere but the paved drives into each nook, much of the ground is covered in small plants and cacti. There's a picnic table/bench thing at each spot, plus a fire pit grill (which is the only place you can burn). Bathrooms and showers are on site and worked great during our stay. Good for families too, if your kids aren't the kind to flail themselves around too much, those Chollas are no joke!

The AZ State Parks system USED to be a great entity to deal with. Our (senior citizens) club would often plan outings (25-35 rigs) at the parks. I don't know what's going on with this one, but our stay (this time 03/2018) was a total mess. The park rangers (that we dealt with) were clueless and far less than helpful in addressing the park's problems. The outing we had here a couple years ago was great! What happened? These people don't seem to care one wit if you enjoy your stay. Is this the best our taxes and camping fees can do? Maybe time to get somebody on the state level to come stay and experience the level of "service" for themselves. :( Don't get me wrong... I love the State Parks system. It's just sometimes I think the employees of the system forget why they are there. It seems like they would want to retain the public's goodwill? I hope they get a handle on this.

In the Superstition Mountains, the trails within the Lost Dutchman State Park are often 2WD-accessible and wander through stunning country. We took the moderate/easy First Water trail through native vegetation and multicolored peaks, bluffs, washes, and outcrops. The scenery is beautiful and changes constantly. The plant life is remarkable, and made us stop and scrutinize over and over again. This was not my impression of the Phoenix area...what a treat to walk here.

Wow...You'd think this was a private resort. Very well maintained. Hosts and park staff are terrific. Great hiking trails and amazing views of the valley. No wonder it's so popular.

The best 7 dollars you will ever spend. This hike is spectacular. Beautiful scenery, epic trail and nice people make this a very special trail not for the faint of heart.
