From Russia to Washington DC With Love , Fun and Food !
Once upon a time in Moscow & St. Petersburg, a mythical woman named Mari Vanna welcomed diners into her home with open arms, feeding them traditional Russian fare on her finest china and linens. All were welcome and those who frequent were graced with a key of their own to return whenever they wish to this cozy retreat.
Now in present day Washington DC on a popular block has taken up residency and awaits hungry neighbors and tourists alike who are looking to eat, drink and be merry and finally understand what true Russian hospitality means.
Laden with extraordinary attention to detail, Mari Vanna will immediately transport each guest into an archetypal Russian home adorned with trinkets and tchotchke, including the iconic Russian Bear, stacking dolls and Cheburashka, bookshelves filled with Russian literature, elaborate chandeliers hung far and wide and crystal bowls of Sushki, a traditional Russian tea bread, placed on each table. Reminiscent of pre and post Soviet Union Russian, the wallpaper peels back to show the generations that have past. A manicured garden of flowers and herbs fills the open floor-to-ceiling windows at the front of the restaurant, while a wood-burning oven rests in the corner waiting for the cold winter months.
Complementing the authentic fare is a vodka program like none other, featuring dozens of top-shelf Russian vodka, as well as selections from all over the world. Mari Vanna’s Chef has developed 20 varieties of infused Russian vodka with sweet and savory ingredients, such as Honey & Oats, Cowberry, Blackcurrant, Cranberry and even Horseradish, displayed in giant canisters at the bar.
