I had an awful, awful experience with Matthews Moving Systems. My dining table was damaged during a five mile move across town simply because the movers did not cover it with a blanket. Matthews Moving Systems refused to accept responsibility and it will cost me $500 to have the item repaired. It is less expensive to just rent a U-Haul and move your own furniture. The laws are written to protect the moving companies not the shippers. For example, replacement value insurance is expensive to the shipper and may cost more than the damage done to an item. On the other hand, $.60 per pound method may mean that you pay more for the repairs. Either way, the moving company wins and the shipper loses. The movers were slow, lazy, and unprofessional. They took numerous breaks and a move that should have taken 4 hours ended up being 6.75 hours. The move cost me $110 per hour so I guess there was a reason for a lot of procrastination. Matthews Moving Systems wasn't concerned about the time, for each hour that passed the company's profits were increased. I'll never use their company again!! If you are moving and you value your possessions then DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!! My furniture was moved from the West Coast to the East Coast by a truly professional moving company and the damages were minimal. Yet Matthew Moving Systems could not move them same items less than five miles without doing $500 worth of damage. This company could care less about your personal items.

Moving crew was fair. But company has very poor customer service. We had a patio table that broke during move. The company has been extremely poor about responding to claim or updating on status. The only person who handles this is Karen Matthews who is the president of the company. So one cannot complain or talk to anyone else either. Very disappointing. Have gotten BBB involved.

We had several pieces that were broken and they lost the hardware to my son's bedroom suite. The guy dropping off the furniture kept blaming the packers, warehouse and apologizing with promises of them coming out next day to fix this for us. When I called to get someone out to come fix the broken pieces and replace hardware, I mentioned them coming out that day as the guy promised and the response was, "I wish they wouldn't tell people things like that" and I knew then we were going to have a problem. With the missing hardware we were unable to put his bedroom together so he slept in another bed the first 2 nights. Then by day 3 and 4 still no one was out fixing it so we had to go find hardware that would work and put it back together ourselves. They never came back to fix the broken pieces, replace hardware and good luck getting someone who cares to respond. I reached out and was told to fill out a claim. OKay fine, we fixed the broken pieces we could and put a nominal fee on claim form for that plus put value on claim form for the 2 pieces that cannot be fixed. We moved in May and now in September have not received claim payment. The contact with the office manager has been icy and I'm the one reaching out to ask about it. The very least you can do is apologize, keep me informed and pay the claim in less than 4 months. I would NEVER use this company again and it's not only because management doesn't care that they broke things, caused added stress with lost hardware for bedroom suite BUT because they don't even care.

The actual moving crew was great & courteous & professional, but their back office/support/claims people (Michelle, specifically) are amazingly bad. Matthews unloaded us on 5/5/15 but it took numerous phone calls and 2-wk delay to even get a claim form for the outdoor dining table they broke during the move. We purchased insurance on the move as well, and even when their handyman came out to assess damage as repairable or not, he even acknowledged that it was simply a case of too much weight placed on the table during the move. Seemingly simple claim, and now 6 weeks later (after the initial claim filed), with near zero communication from Michelle, we are still without reimbursement. We are filing a complaint with BBB today and will pepper any & all user-review sites with negative reviews. Look elsewhere for your moving needs, these guys a mute on the communication front and in no need of keeping their customer happy. Awful customer service, just awful.

Dear Mr. Matthews, I wanted to take this opportunity and thank you again for handling my move. This is the fourth time you have successfully moved my family: 1) Matthews, NC to Cary, NC Apartment, 1997 2) Cary Apartment to Morrisville, NC home, 1998 3) Morrisville, NC to Midland, NC, 2005 4) Midland, NC to Monroe, NC, 2014 Each of these moves was done professionally and the team was always very courteous and careful to take good care of our belongings! This last move was the same as it was many years ago in 1997; from the first call to your office to setup the move, to the final piece of furniture being moved to our new home, it was flawless. I would like to send a special thanks to Tony and Theo. These guys moved fast and efficient because they knew this was an hourly move. That took great care of us and I hope you appreciate them as much as I do. I don’t have any plans to move in the near future, but if I do you can bet I will call Matthews Moving! Regards, Sam Sam M.
