A little bit of France in Redmond should be the name or slogan for this place. A more appropriate name would be the Midori Bakery and Cake Boutique since they offer both. I first found out about it when I went to a wedding and had a slice of their blueberry-lemon cake (and had seconds, something I don't often do). After much effort (the bakery is in an industrial park but they have several signs outside directing customers to it), I had their plain croissant a few days ago. I was instantly transported back to the little bakery near my parents place in Nice, France that I would walk to in the morning to get my morning croissant and lunch bread and International Herald Tribune from the corner grocery store on the way back. Large, flaky (I got crumbs all over me), moist, and you could see the individual layers of dough when cut in half and it was warm out of the oven the day I went. I only wish that I had brought some butter with me but then, it didn't need any. Since then, I tried their chocolate croissant, nutrella banana, mushroom tarte, blueberry almond? croissant, and my parents raved about the ham and cheese croissant. I think that their prices are reasonable. I ended up meeting the two owners, Morgan and Jeremy. The next time I am going to a new client in Redmond that I am setting up, reviewing, supporting, or training in QuickBooks or Quicken, I will bring them a treat.

This place has quickly become our favourite bakery. Their pastries are excellent (try the kugelhopfs), good coffee, friendly service. Their cakes look incredible although I haven't had the pleasure of trying one yet. We mostly buy our stuff to go, but it's also a nice place to sit and eat in.
