At the Monroe County Museum, we fuel and cultivate our visitors’ curiosity through the exploration of Monroe County’s rich and varied stories, joining together to unearth meaning and illuminate relevant connections between the past, present, and futur

Story

We house one of the largest collections of artifacts relating to Southeast Michigan. Only a small percentage of the total collection can be exhibited at one time; many exhibits are changed each year.

We are a unit of the County of Monroe, Michigan, governed by the County of Monroe, Michigan Board of Commissioners, and generously funded by the citizens of Monroe County.

Also, we're filled with awesome stuff; you should come and see.

I would have given less if I could be more specific. The museum itself is amazing , but I recently encountered volunteers/ employees maybe ?? at the Lantern tour event on October 21st and they were very rude. We were wrapping up pictures and 6pm and were basically told to leave , your event didn't start until 7:50 pm and we were not in the way of your set up. Several other people were just as unfriendly. I thought this would be a nice event to attend until we were treated so poorly.

Half of the museum was closed for renovations. The displays we saw looked like they were made 30 years ago and not updated since. The museum could update everything to meet the standards of contemporary Museum design.
