This is Mortensen's Danish Bakery in Solvang. If this doesn't qualify as one of the top 10 Danish bakeries in America then  I don't know where you're going to find it.
They have some of the best Danish pastries and cookies that you will eat.  It's a charming place, sometimes the parking can be a bit tight, and it's not the most accessible place in the world although a person in a wheelchair can get in there.
If you are driving by on 101, then please pull off the highway, drive to Solvang, go to Mortensen's Bakery and buy some  assorted Danish pastries, you will love them. And don't forget a tin of those Danish sugar cookies.

Baked stuff was fine. I'd definitely say it is heavily on a sweet side of your typical baked creations. If you are not really into overemphasized sugary things - like myself - you might not like it too much. I wish baked stuff was a little more doughy and not falling apart like sand castles. I definitely prefer Danish goods with more chewy texture. Place has indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor is a lovely park, especially after sun stopped beating on it. Owners are very friendly. 
Disclosed Secret: they are Ukrainian/Russian/Polish and only a little bit of Danish blood :)

The best pastries in town. I love the almond paste bear claws. The people are nice and helpful if you have any questions about the different types of pastries.

One of my family's long-time favorites. Out of all the bakeries in Solvang (each wonderful in its own way) we've been consistently coming back to Mortensen's for many years. The food is good and the staff is always friendly. Try the Danish Waffle and the Napoleon's Hats. They won't disappoint.
