We booked a reservation since we were attending a wedding in Newport and the bride and groom reserved a block of rooms at this particular hotel. I called ahead to find out the check in time as our wedding started at 4:30. A nice clerk told me that check in was 3 PM. When my husband and I arrived at approximately 3:20, there were 2 women standing in line and a frustrated gentleman waiting to get into his room. He had a room key and walked into his room with a gentleman asleep on the bed. He also was attending a 4:30 wedding and just wanted an empty room to change for wedding- any room. One woman wanted to check in and her room was not ready. She was attending the same wedding I was. Then the man who was asleep in said room came to the desk to try to straighten out the issue which took a minimum of 15 minutes. In the meantime the line at the door grew to about 12 people. The entire situation played out in front of all these people. Something told me that I should turn right around. The clerk, a man in in his early 30's, remained hunched over his Ipad, or computer screen with a baseball cap on backwards. (Not a good corporate image.) I checked in and got the key but never went to the room and probably should have turned right around. After the wedding, which ended early, we decided that we would not stay. The location is not great- on the rim of a shopping center. # 2 the treatment, disorganized management and unprofessional manner in which a situation was handled for all to view, gave me a bad vibe. So I had to absorb $165.00 cost and did not stay. I have stayed in Motel 6 facilities up and down the east coast before. I know that they are basic and clean, but the management here, in one of the nicest East Coast resort towns is despicable. Motel 6 will not be around long with management like this. Shame on me for not checking out the competition and shame on the bride and groom for recommending such an establishment. I am sure you had many unhappy customers on Saturday 9/16.

Stayed at Motel 6 years ago in California... it was awful, dirty bedspreads, carpet etc. This Motel 6 was clean, but I am glad I read the review before booking so knew that it was clean, freshly painted and an ultra- fundamental, sleep only type of place. Staff was very pleasant, polite, welcoming and accommodating... my wife is wheelchair bound and the staff were genuinely helpful. In fact the enthusiasm for their work from the front desk was a big hit with me Morning coffee was tasty, cups were very downmarket. I was surprised that our beds didn't get made up.

We had a total of three rooms. The first had clearly had someone smoking cigarettes recently. It reeked. The second had tiny ants. We actually tried to tolerate the ants. We asked for spray and was given it. We sprayed first thing in the morning and when we came back the floor was crawling with ants. We moved again. We checked the room thoroughly for ants and found none. Each night we went to sleep I was terrified that we would get bed bugs, or lice, or finally ants. It was not a pleasant way to spend a vacation. I actually thought that if Motel 6 was in Newport, RI how bad could it be. Unfortunately, it was that bad. Really sad. You have such an opportunity. Good square footage, great location. But you mess it up by not checking out your rooms, not dealing with pests, not having a working lock on the door at the end of the hall near room 115. What is the point in a card reader if it doesn't actually lock. And the towels.... these were such an amazing disappointment. The bath towel is the size of a hand towel anywhere else. They were scratchy and thin. The shower was good, the sink was good, even having hard surface floor was understandable. But there is no way the bad could be outweighed.

I guess it is what it is, but overall wouldn't stay at a Motel 6 again. I expected more since it was in Newport, but that expectation was not met. I will say, the AC worked, and the bed was clean - so that was good. The bathroom tub, toilet, sink we clean enough, but the overall feel of the bathroom was dirty (floor corners etc). The entrance to the hotel looked like a back door, was unappealing and very dirty looking. Still, I was happy I didn't have to pay the price of other hotels down there, although it was still too high for what it offered. The staff was pleasant enough and had to put up with a lot of angry guests, which they tolerated professionally...well, to the caliber they were capable. I think a lot could be done to keep up the appearance better, and staffed to clean better. Leaves a lot to be desired. I expected bare bones, but cleaner bones. Other guests in our party complained of more serious issues.

The staff went above & beyond to help w/ our party which included a disabled, wheel chair using military US Veteran, they were so kind. Then, they went on to assist when we needed a document printed from an email, they did this for us and we are eternally grateful. What a wonderful staff & motel, thanks Motel 6 !! We love you ♥
