Largest museum in the world tasked with presenting our shared art, history and science of time and time keeping.

Story

The National Watch and Clock Museum was officially opened to the public in 1977 with fewer than 1,000 items. Since that time, the collection has increased to over 12,000 items and the museum has undergone several expansion projects. The latest expansion opened in October 1999 and featured an entirely new and redesigned exhibit space, as well as a new two-story addition. Today, the museum is recognized as the largest and most comprehensive horological collection in North America.

Been meaning to come here for a while and finally made it down thanks to having to be nearby. The museum has an intriguing range of time pieces and looks at the measurement of time from the very first crude time pieces (sand clocks, water clocks etc) to sundials to the modern quartz movements. There are a range of clocks with different types of escapement on show so you can see the escapements working, a lot of pocket watches and long case clocks as well as a few intriguing concept timepieces that are unlike anything I'd ever seen before. The museum also features a huge concept clock, I think it was called the Engels clock, that has so many moving parts it beggars belief. It's worth timing your visit to take in the chance to see it in action.

Great place to go!! The exhibits are amazing! The tours were very interesting and informative. You must see the 8th wonder of the world clock..the time and effort the maker put into it is just awe inspiring. I'm really glad I got to go. I highly recommend you check this place out.

Awesome pieces is history in here. Wish I would have allowed more time (no pun intended) to see everything. The Centenial clock was awesome!

Wonderful exhibits and presentation. I really appreciate being so close to the timepieces to get to truly experience the skill, ingenuity, and craftsmanship that went into designing these machines. Absolutely mind boggling. The facilities and grounds are gorgeous, clean, and accessible. Perfect for large groups or small family outings.
