Story

The Antique Automobile Club of America Museum, located in Hershey, PA, displays vintage automobiles in unique scenes and settings! Visitors can stroll through eight decades in time while traveling from New York to San Francisco. It’s a trip down memory lane as you recall the cars your grandparents or parents drove as well as those from your early driving days.

A trip to the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum at Hershey is a journey of discovery and enjoyment for the whole family. The Museum’s original and restored vintage vehicles are displayed in elaborate scenes that bring the history of the automobile to life. From a tiny machine shop in turn-of-the-century New York to the asphalt apron of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, the Museum’s Sea to Shining Sea exhibit invites the visitor to move through time and space on a tour from the automobile’s blacksmith shop beginnings to a time and place where the car was king.

The Cammack Gallery features the World’s Largest Collection of Tucker Automobiles and related artifacts. The Cammack Tucker collection is a permanent exhibit opened in late 2014 and displays 3 Tucker ’48 automobile, the factory Tucker test chassis, hundreds of engineering drawings, original Tucker parts and several experimental engines. The Tucker ’48 vehicles include Tucker #1001 – the first “production” prototype, Tucker #1022 – Mr. Cammack’s first Tucker and Tucker #1026 – the only surviving Tucker with an automatic transmission. A total of 51 Tuckers were built by hand in Chicago, of which 47 are know to still exist.

The journey moves beyond the main exhibit — into a changing exhibit gallery designed to showcase short term displays that range from Model T’s to Muscle Cars. Moving to the Lower Level reveals a new set of spaces to be explored, including Flo’s restored 1941 Valentine Diner (relocated from Wichita, Kansas). It’s a walk-in time capsule of a period when coffee cost a dime and the waitress placed an order for ham and eggs by calling to the cook for “pigs and chickens on a raft.”

Continue your journey on the Museum’s Lower Level with a tour of the Museum of Bus Transportation—the largest collection of buses on display under one roof in the United States! A dozen buses and an illustrated timeline trace the history of bus transportation—from the days of crank starts and wicker seats to full-sized motor coaches complete with uniformed hostesses.

For children this is the place to get up close and personal with automotive stuff. In the activity room, younger visitors can do a crayon rubbing of an antique license plate and engage in a variety of hands-on projects and activities. At the Photo Stop, kids of all ages can dress up in period clothing and have their picture taken sitting a vintage vehicle.
The finishing touch to any museum visit is a trip to the Retail Store. Featuring exciting and unusual items such as Garage Décor, Auto Care, Collectibles, Books, DVD’s, models, toys and much more – There’s something for everyone! Many items from the store are also available online – simply click on the store button at the top of the page.

Awesome array of vintage cars! The current "Garage finds" exhibit is a lot of fun if you like cars with a story. I would recommend at least 2 hours to fully enjoy everything. We arrived at 3:45 and with the museum closing at 5 it was just not enough to fill see everything but we were able to rush through it all. Employees were adamant about closing on time, wish they would have let us look through the gift shop. Awesome collection of antique buses in the basement! Highly recommend this museum. It was a fun break from all of the chocolate in Hershey. This is a blue star museum meaning they offer discounts for active duty military and their families. If you're a veteran, they also give you a discount.

If you love cars and history, you must come here. They have so many original, unrestored, low-mileage cars and motorcycles! Their exhibits rotate frequently, giving opportunity to see new things regularly. Wonderful!

Great displays of vintage cars trucks and buses, as well as not so vintage cars that I remember from my childhood. I've been here a few times and plan to keep coming back. My little kids love it too.
