Story

Drive along the North Shore of Lake Superior between Duluth and Two Harbors and you will come across a café. A cozy building nestled behind a gorgeous garden; filled with herbs, vegetables and fragrant flowers. The café looks humble but what awaits inside is anything but ordinary. Since opening in 1999, Scott Graden’s New Scenic Café has grown exponentially; continually amazing customers with its unique menus, serene atmosphere and impeccable service.

The New Scenic Café was created in the spring of 1999 by Scott Graden, with over 15 years of experience in concept and menu development, and Rita B, a well accomplished artist.

Today, the New Scenic Café is a part of the North Shore experience. With local artisan expressions throughout, a relaxed comfortable atmosphere, beautiful flower and herb gardens in front and a menu that will satisfy any palate or culinary desire, the New Scenic Café should be your North Shore destination.

It looks like a little place in the side of the road. I was expecting quick cafe type food. I was very surprised by the menu. It was upscale cafe... Very gourmet and original. I take points off because the service was terrible. I was waiting for a table and standing in the lobby for about 15 minutes and no one even came out to say they would be back. The waitress barely came back. Every time I needed a drink refill, it would take at least 10 minutes. It took forever to get the bill as well. The hostess seating us gave us a list of the specials but couldn't answer questions about swaps. The food was good, but the service was bad. If you don't mind waiting, then I would recommend this place. If you hate waiting, then I would skip this place. I would say it could have been a bad day, but everyone seemed really relaxed with no sense of time or urgency. The view was good though!

New Scenic Cafe is one of Minnesota's best restaurants. Amazing location and the best food north of Duluth. Come ready to wait, but luckily there's Lake Superior across the street.

High quality food, great service, cool menu items that rotate and often feature great vegetables. Chicken sandwich is an all time favorite.

I recently went and purchased a gift card (no longer paper certificates, now they have cards-but they look nice). Perfect gift

This is our second time here and this place is just as amazing as the first. If this restaurant was in downtown Minneapolis, it would be booked out for months. Very high class restaurant and the food is amazing. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. You can't go wrong here and is a must stop for a trip in Duluth. Top marks. Thank you so much!

Our first time at Scenic and definitely not our last! The food is so beautifully presented you almost hate to ruin it by taking that first bite. It's hard to stop once you do though, as it tastes even better than it looks. Excellent service too! This will be one of our must stops for all future visits to the North Shore!

Every meal I have had here has been pretty amazing. My wife had a roasted eggplant dish with tomatoes and grains that she loved. To capture the Spirit of the North Shore I ordered a open faced gravalax sandwich. My son had the tuna tacos. The views of the waters were amazing. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and provide great service. This is truly a gem of the Minnesota North Shore! Not to be missed.
