The office officially closes at 5pm yet the staff depart at 4pm. Frankly that's government fraud. Anyway, don't expect to get any work done with them late in the day. -- I wonder if they come in late as well. I overheard that at least one appointment book was always empty at 9am and they didn't seem to be taking appointments on Mondays or before or after holidays. I suspect an accounting or governance office/watchdog needs to take a look here.

These are the most UNPROFESSIONAL group of people I’ve sadly have to work with , The “SWITCHBOARD” Ms.Brown has no manners , no customer service .. All the people look like they hate their jobs , DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE PEOPLE

Ha! Do not expect polite courteous service here. From the moment you walk in, the help desk already look at you like a degenerate. You can tell by the obesity rate there, many of the employees enjoy being on the government cheese and the sense of urgency dissipated long ago. The attitude and help is atrocious and for the elderly and Spanish speaking peoples with little computer skills, good luck. Just so you have an idea what to expect: My appointment was at 10.00, I stood in line for 15 minutes behind a Spanish speaking couple and finally was acknowledged at 10.15. The greeting of the day is non-existent in this building, as in NYC, so do not expect a good morning, please or thank you. Just the sneer that you are a low-life piece of garbage who needs a job. They hand you a packet to fill out, the same one you filled out online, but must do it again... to waste more time... finally around 10.50, the counselor, (in my case a veterans counselor) calls you to their desk. You go over again the same information you fill out on the NYS dept of labor website a third time and they enter it into a computer DOS system at the speed of slow. Yes you can do it faster if you speak English and have proficient typing skills. A pre-requisite most the employees here lack. After you finish that, they explain the job search etc and waste a few more hours of your time. After all this is complete they release you... Only to invite you back to this hell next month. And just so you don't think I have a biased opinion, on my walk through White Plains I noticed half a dozen "help wanted" signs. Either at kitchens, malls, gas stations and even one bank. People are hiring, it just depends on if you want to work. The NYS labor building should be torn down and made into additional parking for Whole Foods.

The woman who answered the phone was incredibly rude, the website says this is the department of labor and when she answered the phone it was hard to hear her so I asked what department this was and she responded in rather sarcastic tone of voice. I made a mistake and she took it as an opportunity to be rude and sarcastic !
