Just a word to the wise. Dr. Nordine will not tell you this, but when he says he wants to put you or a loved one on a "Mood Stabilizer", DONT LET HIM! It's just another name for Anti-Pyschotics, usually prescribed off-label and a horrific experience, both the side effects and the withdrawal. Dr. Nordine refuses to acknowledge this, because he is still dishing it out. So he will let a patient suffer madly through these things because he is too stubborn to admit he is wrong. Thumbs down!

To begin, Dr. Nordine's place of work is actually 1200 Valley West Dr, Suite 206, which unfortunately does not seem to be reflected in his online presence. I spent eight minutes driving around West Des Moines while trying to find his office, and as such was four minutes late to my appointment at 3pm. I had all the paperwork filled out and ready for the receptionist at 310. The receptionist called Dr. Nordine and let him know I was ready. Five minutes later, a nurse (who did not introduce herself and who I did not see again during my visit) came out to take the paperwork. Twenty minutes later, thirty-five minutes after the appointment was scheduled to start, Dr. Nordine came out to get me. He told me that he was sorry he was late, but then informed me that he had taken a consult at the last minute. I felt insulted, not just that my time was clearly not being respected if he felt it was fine to delay our appointment half an hour without letting me know, but also that he continued to talk about his other business while the appointment was ongoing. He took phone calls, and actually spent time talking about who had called and why, and at one point attempted to introduce me to a delivery person dropping off samples of medication. Each time, he got off topic and dropped the previous line of questioning. At multiple points during the appointment, he also felt it was necessary to inform me about his other specialties (which were health insurance policy and internal medicine, neither of which I was there to see him about). When we finally discussed what sort of treatment I was looking for, he began getting sidetracked with other medical issues I had, and trying to offer me solutions and treatments despite my repeated insistence that they were not my major concern. He also informed me that he was considering prescribing me medication that had not been FDA approved for the symptoms he believed I had. I want to clarify - he directly stated that the FDA had only approved the medication for certain symptoms, and that he was currently prescribing it to patients who did not have those symptoms. Overall Dr. Nordine was rude and overbearing, and I will not be going back to see him a second time. That being said, I have given him two stars instead of one in this review because, despite apparently ignoring my concerns and attempting to offer treatment for non-psychiatric problems, he still wrote a prescription for the medication that I had been prescribed by a previous psychiatrist for different symptoms than what he was concerned about. Whether or not that makes him a better doctor is up in the air, but he did provide the care that I was looking for. As a side note, for any women looking to see Dr. Nordine, he was charged with an improper (sexual) relationship with a former patient and punished by the Iowa Board of Medicine for a breach of medical ethics. Surprisingly, it's easier to find this information than his practice's current address.
