About

Legendary waters: soothing body, mind & spirit naturally for centuries.

Story

Opened in 1868, Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs is one of the oldest natural health resorts in the United States, and the only hot springs in the world with a remarkable combination of four different sulfur-free mineral waters. Deemed sacred by the Native American tribes of Northern New Mexico, Ojo’s legendary waters have been soothing mind, body and spirit naturally for thousands of years. The 1,100-acre resort features enchanting suites and charming cottages, a historic hotel and private homes. The full-service spa offers a wide array of restorative therapies including nurturing massage and rejuvenating body treatments. In The Artesian Restaurant and Wine Bar, Executive Chef Paul Novak incorporates Ojo’s farm-grown herbs, fruits and vegetables into his global cuisine. Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs is located one hour north of Santa Fe and 45 minutes south of Taos, New Mexico.

This is my third time here and it never disappoints. The springs and pools are wonderful and restorative. The facility is well maintained and staff are walking around constantly to pick up and remind people it is a whisper zone so that everyone can peacefully soak. The lockers, showers, and supporting areas are in good shape and provide everything you need. Lodging is not cheap but very worth it. I have stayed in the private plaza rooms each time which also provides early/ late access to a private pool for extra soak time. I have made use of that every time. Staying in the rooms mean you can soak, take a break, take a nap, go hike, and then soak again. The spa services had been good in the past but I did not do that this trip. Restaurant had amazing food. I have never been disappointed from drinks to food offered at breakfast lunch or dinner. If I was passing through, i would stop for the food. Always look forward to coming back.

Even though the spa itself is a beautiful place, the staff did not protect my female friends when someone entered their room while they were soaking. These are both very beautiful women and they were on a special trip to relax together. They came back to their room after soaking to find that someone had entered their room and left a creepy message on one of their suitcases. When they went to the staff for help because they did not feel safe (one was so scared she was shaking). They wanted to protect themselves and find out who had entered their room and left the note. The staff wouldn't show them the video footage that would reveal this person's identity. Instead, the male staff went into 'victim blaming.' The staff there needs to be educated on protecting women and not victim blaming. No matter how beautiful a setting is, it is not relaxing if it is not safe.

I love this place! We stayed in our RV in their park. The sites are fine, not large, dirt, but it was fine. The hot baths are just wonderful. There are places to hike as well. It's a beautiful area, and I would go back often if I could! A view from my RV window in the park and from a hike we took.

Great first experience at a hot spring. As we were told by the staff it is the oldest and only place in the area that offers as much variety in the natural minerals coming from all the springs in the mountain. Only complaint is that they didn't offer sandals and robes as part of the base price which are important in winter time when the floor is cold and full of salt rocks. Soaking in the different pools was great and very relaxing. Also tried the salt scrub treatment and would highly recommend it.

I will never visit Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs and will never recommend this place to anyone. I recently had two friends who stayed here and their visit was stopped short by a traumatizing event involving hotel staff. A manager went into my friend’s room without permission and left a note from someone who is stalking my friend. This incident was bad, but what made it worse was the hotel’s response. Ojo Caliente doesn’t have working security cameras. Ojo Caliente assured them that no one from the staff had been in the room (making my friends think the stalker was there and broke into the room.) Ojo Caliente engaged in victim blaming as evidenced by the “security guards” and staff interrogating my friends as if they were the ones who did something wrong. Ojo Caliente told my friends if they didn’t feel safe they could just leave. Since Ojo Caliente can’t protect their guests appropriately and treat them poorly; my friends left late at night to get to somewhere they felt safer. Ojo Caliente NEVER took responsibility or apologized for entering their room without consent and the way they treated my friends.
