Old Cal Coffee & Eatery is San Marcos’ oldest coffee house and serves up morning scrambles, acai' fruit bowl, fresh bagels & muffins. For Lunch and Dinner, we serve gourmet sandwiches, wraps, salads, soups & Vegan chili, smoothies and desserts as well as a full line of gourmet coffees and teas. Now Serving Gelato Italian Ice Cream!

We Now Offer Gluten Free Sanwhiches, Gluten Free Muffins and Gluten Free Piadas! We also specialize in vegetarian menu items such as our Baked Tofu, Roasted Bell Pepper Hummus and Vegan Chili.

Our Goals include being a haven from the sterile, cookie-cutter atmosphere of the corporate coffee house, and offer a respite from the hectic, frenzied pace of life. We strive to preserve the legacy of the coffee house as a place of community – a place to meet friends, hang out and relax, have stimulating conversation, listen to music, read, study, draw, write poetry, meet with business associates, enjoy the local flavor and have some great coffee and eats.

Just so many good eats in one spot. Great place to go if you're undecided.

Demolition on restaurant row will begin in the next few months and a park and affordable housing is gonna take it's place

Great food as always, service wasn't bad, however, ice water didn't arrive til I had finished eating.  I requested about halfway thru.  Prices have gone up, just like most places.  I love the old country music they play, very nostalgic!  In case if you're wondering...with the proposed redevelopment, OCMC will be moving to the location where Phil's BBQ was in San Marcos.

It's sad the new owners are going to trash this once unique place with bland apartments with overpriced generic dining you can find literally anywhere else. I will actively tell people to protest the redevelopment ideals and I hope the community gets together and changes the construction plans for the better. Change is nice but we should leave the more long standing semi-historical places alone. We should instead fix them up and make them better while keeping up with the themes and history of the places in these once considered small towns.

Wonderful place to eat.  Even though the informed us they were short-handed, the staff was courteous and efficient.  The food came out hot and well timed with drinks and appetizers.Food: 5/5

I haven't been to Old California Mining Company since '99-'00...yeah it's been a minute. At this time they aren't taking reservations. The restaurant wasn't terribly crowded, and they offered indoor or outdoor seating. Back in the day I remembered having a chicken dish, and the garlic mashed potatoes that were to die for! Tonight, I was open to trying something different, which was going to be the Sea Bass, but ultimately decided on the Miner's Club. The club sandwich wasn't made like a traditional club where it's cut in quarters - it looked like a toasted, sloppily made sandwich. It tasted great, but the presentation was terrible. The fries were good - can't really get fries wrong. I also had a Cadillac Margarita  which was okay. The waitress was great and very attentive, but I was hoping she'd ask if I wanted dessert. I knew when I got there that I was going to consider it, and forgot about it. I'd go back again and try the Sea Bass with the garlic mashed potatoes.

Enjoyed the atmosphere and the food, sevice was friendly and good.

Service was attentive. My salad was good but the potato cheese soup was served cold, however when I brought it to their attention they immediately took care of it. We were part of a large group and everyone seemed to enjoy their food.

I love the ambience at Old California Coffee House and Eatery. It beats the environment of the chained cafe, as it offers cozy and vintage sitting areas for lounge, study, or simple conversation. You can enjoy your coffee inside on a couch, or outside at the fire-pit while listening to live music. The vegan chili and split pea soup with bacon are definite comfort foods on the menu. I feel that the menu is pretty diverse for such a small cafe and the ingredients are all healthy and natural. Their sandwiches are fresh and hearty with taste. The service is very warm, and I noticed the owner referred to frequent customers by name. I came here when I first moved to the San Diego area 5 years ago. I was away 3 years and was pleased to return to the same familiar and homey setting. I highly recommend this cafe!

We arrived around 6:00 p.m. and we're seated on the patio there were three other tables with two patrons each. There were two waiters that took care of the three tables and never even acknowledged the fact that we were sitting there. after 15 minutes of waiting I went back inside and asks for some service. Finally, a waitress showed up and she was very pleasant took our drink order after serving us our drink she took our food order. An hour later our food arrived it was lukewarm at best including the baked potato. When I went inside there were no other patrons in there so the place was basically empty. You would think that during these times service would be better. I was really disappointed with the entire experience.
