If you weren't suicidal upon arriving you would be by the time you left. Terrible terrible place, unprofessional staff, nothing about the environment is therapeutic. Someone is making a killing $$ for nothing.

I was admitted here due to being suicidal, I did not have an attempt or anything like that, it was just because I was having suicidal thoughts. Anyway back to the topic. This place is ok, most def not the worst, but far from the best. Very clean and new looking especially on the units. I was in Emerson A Unit. My only complaint was the were actual violence between some of the patients. They handled it well, my friend got his tail beat ( in all honesty he deserved it for running his mouth and being completely disrespectful. But still uncalled for ) The food was ok, not the worst, not the best. I got a lot out of the groups here, which is pretty amazing. The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is solely because of the violence. Otherwise its an ok place.

I learned a lot of valuable things from this place through therapy and therapeutic games. The patients in my unit or group were some of the best folks I've encountered all struggling with something and keeping positive through hellacious encounters with some staff members. We were very cohesive. Most of the staff and therapists were very understanding to patients needs and a couple treated us like adults. However, one counselor in particular treated us like children. She would keep us locked out of our rooms the entire time, even during free periods, when we were supposed to have access to our rooms. The other counselors allowed us to have access to our rooms all day. Sometimes i like to go close my eyes for 30 minutes during the day, but I could not even take that chance with this particular counselor. I can understand if they stress the importance of us attending the group therapy sessions, but, hell, if you are damn suicidal and want to sleep in the safety of a hospital, you should have that option, especially if you are adjusting to medications. Plus some people might be chlostrophobic and still like going to groups, but not given the option to take a breather. All I asked for was 30 minutes to close my eyes so I can focus better in my groups and I wasnt granted that with this one counselor. I think it was during music time, but still I listen to music every day. I even willingly loved to go to my groups, so its not like i was milkin the clock. Even one of the therapists had told us to take 15 minutes of your day to yourself, and we couldn't even practice that with this specific person. It even took us like 2 hours to get our thermous of coffee on her shift, when all the other counselors were on point with it. I understand she wants to go by the books and follow rules, but this was out of the scope of practice, i guarantee. If she went by the books we'd have that coffee among other things. The other counselors followed the rules, set guidelines, and still treated us like adults in the process. I learned things about myself and coping mechanisms that I haven't learned before. My doctor, Dr. Thotokura, wasn't really compassionate towards individuals. Luckily i knew she was prescribing appropriate medications to some people and decent meds for me because of the medical courses Ive taken in school, and my experiences battling my issues, but she would argue with you even when you were trying to politely explain side effects. She also has never even heard of sleep paralysis before. Overall they came through with my nicorette gum when I asked. Nate was cool as hell and taught us a lot. The therapist in Adams building was cool. They could stock up on pillows and give you extra pillows without having to ask a doctor to place an order for one. Food was pretty decent actually and i got filled up good. I understand the nurses get busy with patients in other units so I was understanding of some delays of services, but it could be a little more organized.

Very supportive staff and religious facility that I liked a lot. However, I was attacked by a patient while I was sleeping. Nothing was said to him and no one took the time to ask if I was alright.
