The 38-room boutique beach lodge is in a Spanish Colonial Revival-style building that has been in operation since 1927 and boasts classic examples of Moorish-influenced Mediterranean Revival Architecture throughout, all meticulously maintained over the course of several decades. In 2001, the property was deemed a historic landmark by the City of Santa Monica.

I love this place. It has a lot of charm. The higher end rooms are awesome. The lower end rooms are a bit cramped. The staff is great and they are always responsive. Location is perfect: just close enough to walk anywhere but just far enough away for peace and quiet at night. My only knock against this place is that every time I stay there have to ask for a coffee pot in my room (I stay here a lot on business trips), but that may not matter to most people.

Stayed there 10/1/2016 for my daughter's wedding. I highly recommend this hotel. We all were upgraded to the top floor suites. My daughter and son in law were upgraded to the penthouse suite. This hotel has a lot of character so the pictures turned out amazing. The photographer absolutely loved it! The staff was friendly and accommodating. Loved it!!!

We had an amazing experience. The hotel has a lot of character and is so beautiful through and through. The location is perfect. Quiet and relaxing, just a block from the Promanad shopping area. If I come back to Santa Monica I will most definetly book here again. The staff were very welcoming.

We stayed here for four nights and experienced a very welcoming, friendly and laid back atmosphere. Upon arrival we were given an upgrade from Classic Room to (one half of a) Penthouse, which offered enough room for us and a baby bed. The room was quiet, even though facing a road, but the neighbourhood in general was more of the quiet kind. The queen size bed was very comfortable, the bathroom provided a tub and a shower, shampoo, body wash and other utensils. The room had no air con, but a huge fan on the ceiling. We didn't miss the one and didn't use the other, due to the mild temperatures.
All staff members were extremely friendly and helpful, not necessarily a common thing when travelling with a baby and thus having some special inquiries. All these were answered and fulfilled quickly and very professionally, like a Microwave or a Baby Bed to our room. The house is well maintained and displayed in a rustic but not old fashioned ambience. It's relaxing and quiet there. We had breakfast twice and it was outstanding. The coffee served there needs to be mentioned in particular since it has been one of the best, most aromatic coffees I've ever had in the USA. 
Be sure to sit outside on the patio, which offered a Mediterranean like atmosphere and was very comfortable and relaxing to sit at. We also had a tasty dinner once, which is provided by a restaurant about one block away, prepared there and delivered to the Palihouse. If you need more selection, go to the restaurant directly, the menu there contains more options than the shortened one at the Palihouse.
Santa Monica centre/ 3rd Street Promenade is only a short walk away, so is the Pier/ Beach, which you can easily reach in about 10-15 minutes. Overall a very positive experience and definitively a place we would come back to.
