This is a great local museum. It's a little small but they pack a lot in. They have items that are unique to Salem and the surrounding area, as well as exhibitions several times a year. The staff is very knowledgeable and polite. This museum tries hard to engage with the community.

A metropolitan museum in a small coastal city. Plan to spend the day exploring the China house, local nautical memorabilia, as well as changing exhibits. Enjoy a beverage and a snack at the museum cafe, or shop in the well appointed gift shop. A favorite to visit again and again.

What a fab museum! We were parked in the multi story across the road doing the tourist thing and only intended to pop in quickly on the way out as we noticed it was the late Thursday open day and we had a reciprocal art museum membership to get in. We ended up spending 1.5 hours and could easily have spent a couple more hours. The exhibits are nicely laid out with information and well lit. The kids (5 & 8) really enjoyed the place, especially the Asian house. Plenty of classes offered and a fantastic gift shop. They also offer free lockers to store a bag which is great. We'll definitely be back to this gem of a place!

It is a great local museum located in Salem, Massachusetts. It has wonderful exhibits as well as interesting Christmas tours where you can visit historical houses in Salem decorated for the holidays.

Great museum for a realistically small town. There is maritime focus, which is really interesting. Salem has a storied history of trade. The rotating exhibits we saw were less than spectacular. The food is prepared and set out for you to grab, it looked unappetizing but consumable. Would be nice to have a beer or glass of wine there, but hey this is Mass after all so that wasn't happening.
