Story

Pearl's Cupcake Shoppe was founded by Laura Condrey and Laurie Blakey. Friends for years, Laura and Laurie worked together in the real estate industry and have always shared a passion for the culinary arts and a love for entertaining. They found themselves helping each other with family gatherings and social occasions.

Laura and Laurie are lifelong bakers whose love for surprising and delighting is evidenced by a smile in every bite.

Cupcakes are good. Although, our first and very SPECIAL birthday cake was soggy inside and cracked outside. Most noticeably was the uneven cake to icing ratio. I have to say most people even shied away from eating the cake 🙁 I was so happy to have ordered. I broke a tradition of Ukrop’s cakes and will probably hear about at the next party 😂 They were easy to work with, pretty affordable and have lots of options.

Pearls just did my wedding 02/24/18. The cupcakes were absolutely delicious! My guest continue to ask me where they were made. I also had a small for cake for me and my husband to cut, with a tribal design since he's Samoan. And my mom surprised us with a bigger cake with his island flag on it. All 3 items were amazing! Thank you so much Pearls!

No complaints! A little pricey but worth every penny! Kind and intimate service, adorable atmosphere, cupcakes are INCREDIBLE.

For anyone who is in a wheelchair or has a family member in a wheelchair, avoid this place. They aren't accessible for people in wheelchairs because the doorway is too narrow and the threshold isn't flat. 

I was disappointed with Pearl's after hearing good things from people in Richmond. The owner/manager was not too concerned when I mentioned the issue about my friend in a wheelchair not people able to come through the door. She said it was not an issue because  few limited mobility patrons come in and they can wait outside. When I moved to Charlottesville, I did not go to their location because of my negative experience at Pearl's. 

Very upsetting and I hope they fix their door so that it complies with ADA.

I do not recommend patronizing this business, I am a past employee from the Charlottesville location. I did not work for Laurie, the owner, for very long, and at first had a great impression of her and her business; myself along with other full time employees were told the last day the Charlottesville shop was open we were losing our jobs with no notice, in addition, she delayed to pay us on time with again, no communication between herself and staff of the delay in payment for a staff working overtime hours daily. There are many other nice bakeries in Richmond I would recommend before Pearls.
