I have lived with pets on the Upper West Side for over thirty years and have watched a multitude of stores selling high end food and supplies proliferate. They all have good selection, they are all somewhat expensive relative to prices online, and almost all of them have indifferent service, as in you can walk in and out without the staff noticing you. 

Pet Central is a notable exception. This is a very small store but it is very cleverly merchandised. The young people who run it are the best. They really seem to enjoy their work and just stopping by there perks me up. They also have monthly promotions where the prices on some foods are more than competitive. Try them; you won't be disappointed!
