Terrible experience. Went a few days to check out a puppy and one of the employees showed me a bird. When I said I was not looking for a bird the employee got the manager and the manager held a 5 minute conversation with me about reasons why I should own a cool bird. When I said I was really really only trying to buy a dog the manager told me that birds are awesome because 'they fly around and shit', I was with my two young kids and the manager in no way shows any discretion. I will not come back here as the employees were extremely pushy and the manager was horrendously obnoxious. I suggest that any person reading this review does not go here. As I was checking out more things in the store I overheard management verbally abusing the female employee and demanding that she clean the shelves and she will not get her commission unless she does so. I am truly disgusted. Will never go back to this location.

(if I could give 0 stars, I would) STAY AWAY FROM PETLAND ALL PLACES LIKE IT!! Their animals are from puppy mills where they have been treated poorly and have possibly been exposed to harmful diseases. Petland may seem like a harmless place where people can take their children to look at all of the cute little puppies, but it can expose people to potentially harmful bacteria. They may tell you their animals are from reputable breeders, just know that these "reputable breeders" are places that have over 1000 puppies at the same time, abuse the animals, and treat them like crap (a.k.a. puppy mills). You can read about how people have gotten a puppy here (for a very unreasonably high price) and have had to put it down because of a problem that Petland didn't tell them about, or didn't know about. Don't bother with their complementary vet exam that comes with the animal, those veterinarians are just paid to assure you that your animal is healthy. If you are looking for a companion, why not go to a shelter? The animals are treated better, cost a substantial amount less than pet stores, and are healthier. You can help an animal in need, or you can find an unreasonably priced, unhealthy animal. The choice is yours.

I will begin this review by educating the general public in the Chicago Northwest Suburb area. We would always go to Petland to look at puppies as I know a lot of us do, it's fun and it's a good way to kill time, but one day we saw a puppy that we fell in love with so we decided to purchase it. Yes, it was way overpriced, but you pay for convenience. The dog was great for a couple days. then became severely ill. I'm not retired, but we spent a lot of money and time trying to keep the puppy alive. Breathing mask, medications, special food and a lot of time. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worse enemy. I felt horrible that we fell in this trap. We didn't do our research before making the purchase and we weren't educated. Nothing against the staff, I understand that they need to support their families just like everyone else. They are lied to by the higher ups in where these dogs come from(Or they are good liars or people like us just don't care to ask for the breeders information and go home and take the time to search information on them). Puppy mills is correct in our case. We searched the information of our breeders and sure enough they have had multiple encounters with the law in relation to animal cruelty as well as some lawsuits. The name of the company Petland bought our dog from was Top Notch Puppies Inc, owned and operated by Carla and Tom Steffensmeier( I invite you to google them). This truly makes me sick and Petland knows it. I wasn't much of an animal person and would never post a review about this, but this is truly disturbing. I invite you to please do your research before even considering buying from this place. If your truly going to consider buying a dog go elsewhere, search for reputable breeders, don't fall in the same steps that many of us have been scammed. Eventually this place will go out of business and the cruelty will stop(At least at this location). Moral of the story is to stay away from this place. Spread the word and together we can make sure this location goes out of business, remember we are the consumers, and if we stop aiding these businesses, they will eventually go down. I will conclude this review with a famous quote once said by a really successful business owner, " There is only one boss. The customer. And he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else" - Sam Walton.

The girlfriend and I went in today to purchase two pair of dog shoes. I had a coupon for a $5 off $30 and the fine print says 'Used once. One per family' My girlfriend tried to explain we were buying one each, because we both have dogs and we live in two separate addresses. Haley the most socially awkward person I've ever encountered repeated what the coupon states and really has no common sense to understand WE ARE TWO SEPARATE FAMILIES. Two separate people, from two separate households shared a ride to purchase dog shoes for their dogs. Trying to give you guys our money ($69-80 purchase) and Haley kept repeating what the coupon says, which we didn't violate. Besides, she said WE WOULD HAVE TO GO HOME, PRINT IT, AND BRING IN A PHYSICAL COPY in order to use it. It's an internet coupon we get from your listing and nowhere on the coupon or the mail listing provides that false information. We will not be shopping here anymore and what ever $80 that was supposed to go in the register went to a small mom and pop place. Seriously though, give Haley some social communication classes.

They have the best saltwater hardware selection in the area but the fish are way overpriced. I always enjoy visiting the puppies but again way overpriced.
