I was disappointed with PetSmart. I went looking for a better selection of food, toys and supplies than I found in big box stores. I was hoping that the pricing would be more reasonable as well.
The store definitely has lots of inventory. The merchandising and displays seemed random and unorganized. It was hard to find an item within a given category and very difficult to find a price on many.
Things I would have purchased were often out of reach. I walked around to find a rep to help, no luck. There is a large walled off but windowed animal training area. You can see the staff, they can see you. If they choose to look out at the customer with all the question marks and smoke covering her head...but there is a "no eye contact" thing going on. 
I wanted several things but I really wanted a tall cat tower with at least three levels. The play towers were in an accessable area. The taller ones weren't priced. Luckily I got the attention of a salesperson in fish. The rep had no clue but did use the loud speaker to summon a cat tower pro. I waited about fifteen or twenty minutes and settled for two smaller towers, several other things and checked out at just under $200.
If the store had been busy or if there had been a hint of helpfulness, (or desire to sell larger ticket items), the story would be different. There were maybe two other customers and the staff seemed disengaged.
This was just one visit, and may well not represent the store as a whole. My experience may have been just a fluke. I probably won't go back though.

I was there to buy hermit crabs for daughter. The girl who helped me seemed fairly knowledgeable about the crabs and what they need, but she was had never sold them before and did not give me the right paperwork to check out. My daughter and I waited a long time to get checked out because they had to go back and for more than once to get the right code or whatever they we're looking for 😞 everyone was very nice and polite and we did end up getting what we need ☺️

I like PetSmart, besides good deals on pet food they also sell cat litter that doesn't make dust and my wife likes that.
